This was not addressed to me: forgive me for sort of butting in. According to a list member who shares my line, my Samuel was the son of Edward (The Planter) Riggs, . But I'm intrigued by the reference to cherokee in your addy: My ancestor Mahala Riggs was reputed to be part Cherokee Indian. Not through the Riggs line, necessarily. We hope the mtDNA will shed light on this. Hope, anyway! Perhaps you've already shared this with the list, but I don't seem to have a record of it: Where was your RIGGS line located around the time of Zadoc and Samuel Riggs? My Samuel Riggs and his son Lott Riggs are both buried in Surry Co., NC. (I'd have to look up the dates to be sure, but early to mid 19th century.) David, Does your information happen to include a Lott RIGGS, VA or NC, in the mid to late 1700s? His daughter, Mahala RIGGS, was born in 1806 and married Elkanah LEWIS in or near Surry Co. NC. A brick wall behind my Lott RIGGS. I know this is a long shot, but I'd appreciate any information. My family is having an mtDNA test to shed information on the maternal line of Mahala Riggs. This of course wold NOT trace the Riggs line. We cannot trace RIGGS unless we run into some other cousins somewhere. Such is genetics! I have a Samuel Riggs born 1796 maybe TN or KY; died 1842 in MO; married Sebrina Splawn. I can find no parents for him, but some others of the same Splawn family married into the Riggs line of Timothy Riggs of New Jersey. It sure makes me wonder if he didn't belong to that same line, right in there somewhere. I just can't make the connection. Zenas had a son, Samuel b 1787 in Vernon, Sussex County, NJ, who had a son, Zenas Dayton Riggs b 1817 in Vernon, NJ, died 1891 in Goshen, Orange County, NY, married Susan Bailey and one of their daughters, Matilda Riggs, married Thomas Rodman of Blooming Grove, Orange County, NY abt 1876-1878. Thomas and Matilda Riggs Rodman were my husband's great grandparents. Any info or photos of the family around?
