Hi David, I need to look for a Census Record. There was a John Riggs Sr. listed with Mary Harris Gordon Riggs and had a son Benjamin in a 1860 Census, so this could not possibly the same Riggs. The Bazell Smith is interesting and I find my ancestor, Boardvine Braswell's ( b. 1799, NC) DNA comes up as Riggs. Oops sorry about the previous message: I clicked too fast and was trying to answer Joan's post concerning Creole Riggs people from Louisiana. My father Warren Riggs was from Lafayette Louisiana, and the family are Creoles of mixed race who spoke French. I am told that one of his parents, my grandparents, was part Cherokee. Dad was born in 1908. He had two brothers and 2 sisters one of whom is still living. However, the other surnames mentioned do not ring a bell. I am told that our Riggs family has ties with the surname Arcenaux (spelling?). Does any of this tie in with any other Riggs people from Louisiana? Please let me know.
