No, age is not a factor. You just need to be a male. I have often wondered if a Silas Riggs, possibly this one, was the father of our Samuel Riggs born about 1796, maybe TN, or NC, and located in Ray County, MO, at one time; married Sebrina Splawn; later in Daviess County, MO. War Harriette: I would like a copy of the Account Records. If Jim has information about a Ray Riggs in Austin, TX, I think that he is the the grandson of Silas Riggs, who had a brother Zadock Riggs, both of whom came to Missouri in early 1800's with their father Zadock Riggs via KY from TN. They settled here in mid-Missouri---the Zadocks in Boone County and are buried in the Red Top Church near Hallsville, MO and Silas settled in Callaway County and he and his wife and other relatives are buried in a Riggs cemetery in nothern Boone County. Ray was born in Callaway County and moved to Austin, TX. I tried to contact him, but I was told he is dead and that his son still lives in Austin. The older Zadock was one of the mix of brothers that went to TN from NC and is connected to Edward. Let me know how much I owe for the NC copies. I had listed it as 1042 previously. That's why I said the # was wrong. Harriette
After re-reading your message it may be that this Silas and Zadock are grandsons of my ancestor Samuel Riggs. Samuel Riggs's will is dated 1800. Sorry. I believe this is an offshoot of my Riggs line from Surry Co., NC (or thereabouts.) My ancestor Lott Riggs had brothers named Silas and Zadoc. Their father was Samuel Riggs. The westward movement was very common. I can't remember off the top of my head who sent a copy of Samuel Riggs's will. Oh, I just found it: Bobby Carwile, BGCarwile@aol.com Really interesting. Sorry, the # was wrong. Harriette
Dear Riggs Researchers, The more I think about it, the more sure I am that we do not have pay vouchers here at NC Archives. However, we have Rev. War Account Books which are a compilation of the records for this war. Can probably find the entry and have that copied if that is what you want. The original pay vouchers are more than likely at Wash. DC at National Archives. There is a possiblity they are on MF, so will check. Let me know if you want the account from the books. Harriette Riggs
Harriette: That is the # that I have. Voucher 1092 (Accounts Vol. 1, Folio 40). Maybe at least the Accounts Vol. 1 or Folio 40 is correct. Jim H. Harrietteh@aol.com wrote: Sorry, the # was wrong. Harriette: The Account Records will do find, I hope it indicates who the pay goes to. The NARA does not have the Pay Vouchers. All they have is Samuels application for Pension in 1834 and his Re-Application in 1844, plus a letter from a relative in Austin, Texas back in 1931. I have these records. This persons name was Ray Riggs who I believe is one my grandfather's half-brothers son. Also cannot find anything else about him.
