Hi, I am looking for some good genealogy books on Portsmouth, RI. Books that cover both its early history and the genealogy of its early families (not necessarily in the same book). Any suggestions. Thanks, Rick Tallman
I was, too , and just stopped at the ISLAND BOOK STORE. I picked up HISTORICAL TRACKS OF THE TOWN OF PORTSMOUTH, RHODE ISLAND. Are you a descendant of one of the Portsmouth Compact signers? I have Freeborn, Wilbur, Porter & Hall. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Tallman" <Rick@tallman.com> To: "RIGENWEB-L" <RIGENWEB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:44 PM Subject: [RI] Book on Portsmouth > > Hi, > > I am looking for some good genealogy books on Portsmouth, RI. > > Books that cover both its early history and the genealogy of its early > families (not necessarily in the same book). > > Any suggestions. > > Thanks, > Rick Tallman > ------------------------------- > > RIGENWEB MAILING LIST > > LIST TOPIC: The discussion, exchange, and research of genealogy and > history information pertaining to Rhode Island. Richard, Just where is the Island Book Store??? My family starting with William James arrived in Portsmouth in 1638-39. My father left Newport after his mother died and went to New Jersey to live with her sister. All the rest of them stayed in Newport. I'd like to know the address so when I go to Newport for reunions;I can buy one.
