Beginning with Lt. John Ellis died in Sandwich, married Elizabeth Freeman, son William Ellis of Sandwich m Lydia Briggs; son Seth Ellis of Wareham m Mary Bumpus, dau Mary Ellis of Rochester m Ephraim Griffeth. At one time I thought I was descended from John ELLIS of Sandwich. He has a descendant named Russell, and Christopher ELLIS' son named Russell, who was my gg grandfather, were born at about the same time. But then a different Russell who was definitely my ancestor was found. However, I might still be descended from John ELLIS of Sandwich--I don't know that I'm not. Russell's son Freeman, a name common to ELLISes and seemingly derived from the maiden name of John ELLIS' wife, was my g grandfather. So there are two given names for males, Russell and Freeman, used by the Lt. John ELLIS family and my family. I have the Lt. John ELLIS genealogy which I acquired from the owners of The Ellis Cousins Newsletter. That newsletter was great--it has been supplanted by an ELLIS newsletter with a different name--but it seemed to show that most ELLISes lived in the Midwest and South. Not much about ELLISes in the northeast. Thanks again. Jayne [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) Thanks very much for your reply.
