Greetings. Once or twice a year, I have access to a library computer with HeritageQuest, and Ancestry Library Version...and it is not now. Could someone who has access bring up "Early Records of the Town of Portsmouth", and check the Index for me for references to George Parker, a Carpenter, Aquidneck Inhabitant, 26y of age in 1638. I hope to discover the 'title' that was George Parker's in those records. It may have been Town Sergeant, or _____? I think the word 'Sergeant' is in his title, and it has been mis-construed to be 'Surgeon General' by some. For instance, at the bottom of p.33 (1646) it says, "It is ordered that Gorge Parker shalbe quitted of the tresury"...(continued on the next page, which I ..ah, did not copy (!) I am not sure this is the desired sentence giving George's title. I don't think he was a commissioner, or on any jury. Sorry to be so inept, but very grateful for smart people on this list. Pat Brown
Hi Pat He was titled Sergeant, if this is the George Parker who died in 1656. The title was later Sheriff rather than Sergeant.
