That happened to me in 1993 (I retired then, I mean) and my genealogical research took a great leap forward then, and even more so when I got an internet-capable computer in December 1997. And, yes, it is never-ending and ever fascinating. I'm unpacking the last of the boxes with my genealogy "stuff" and just came across an envolope with pieces of the Providence Daily Journal... looks like a couple of issues from Oct Dec 1877, but badly yellowed, out of sequence, missing pages, and disintegrate as soon as I handle them. I couldn't bear to toss it way back when, and now that I have a little digital camera, I tried snapping photos, but some parts of the paper are missing, many falling apart in my hands. I did get quite a few photos that include names and business ads and classifieds. I did find a very nice write up (though the end of it is missing) about a wedding in Newport between Mary Roach HUNTER (of Capt. Charles) and Walter KANE (of Delancy). I managed to scan this, but the paper pretty much disolved when I took it out of the scanner. I will be picking up the little bits from my carpet for days! Is anyone interested in these folks? I can e-mail you what I have. Seems to include a bit of interesting family history. Helen
