Does anyone recall or know anything about a Margaret Cummings or Commings who died in the 1950s, probably in East Providence? The 1920 and 1930 censuses show her living on Ivy St., E. Prov., as a maid then housekeeper for a Simmons family. Her son Thomas Cummings, b. ca 1913, was a boarder in the household. The 1930 census says she was b. Newfoundland. Thank you. Jane

Donna, that's it! I hadn't checked the Mass. VR data base because I figured they had probably married after 1910 - and I didn't have James' first name, either. This is going to make a friend of mine very happy. Many, many thanks. Hi Jane. Have been meaning to write and tell you how wonderful the trip was. The conference was educational and we enjoyed touring the city after the conference each day. The first evening we ventured out and went by Wales and Johnson University and I noted the dome on top of the church. I was thrilled to discover it was the Beneficent Congregational Church. We did not locate it on our first trip to Providence three years ago. We went in the adjacent building but could not find anyone there to give us a tour of the old church. My friend was a little spooked walking back to the Westin Hotel that night. Friday night nurses from Texas, Tennessee, and Tina and I took the trolley to Brown University where we walked through the campus and surrounding streets. A kind person stopped and asked if we were lost. She took us all to the Big Fish for supper. Saturday night we walked up to Federal Hill and enjoyed supper at the Old Canteen. Sunday some nurses from Maryland joined us as we took the ferry to Newport after the conference. I kept imagining Solomon and Isaac Tyler sailing their ships up that bay. I tried not to bore Tina too much with family history but at one point she said I was better than the locals in explaining Rhode Island history. It would have been great to get together but maybe we can on my next trip. I would like your advice since I have been thinking about joining the New England Historical Society or the RIHS. Which one would allow more search materials? My main passion is for finding the family of Isaac Tyler and to discover who was his wife but then I may shift gears someday and start searching for more information about the line to Roger Williams or the Paine's, Lindenberger's and Sprague's. I have been busy with summer work at the hospital, gardening, and a summer cold. How are you? Has Rhode Island dried out yet? Best Wishes, Nina
