this is not per se a query but a statement of collateral brain damage - as after 25 years research i cant make any progress on this family. namely the ancestry of Betsey Bennett b. 1792 at Cranston. in the 1820 census Joseph Bennett jr was enumerated next to Daniel Hudson. To me this is of significance. In 1783 at Providence one William Bennett married Hannah Hudson. as in both cases there is a conjunction of Bennett and Hudson either in marriage or in close proximity. The William Bennetts at that time were of Cranston and nearby Warwick. those Williams are probably and more than likley those Williams who married Hannah Capwell ( there is proof that they resided at Cranston in 1774 - and that William Bennett who married Renewed Wood ( in 1743). in 1774 Daniel Hudson the elder - who married Eleanor Rice - he appears at Newport in 1774 - although i beleive he is the Daniel Hudson who married at Cranston but moved. in the 1777 Mil census - Daniel Hudson - resident of Newport is now living in Providence - no doubt displaced by the war. it may have been while at Providence - that a daughter - perhaps Hannah as he only had one is the reason why it is at Providence and not more marriages mentioned or at Newport. The Joseph Bennett Jr - as there is an older Joseph Bennett at Cranston in the 1820 census ...he may be the Joseph Bennett who married Penelope Andrews in 1805 at Warwick. She is reputed to be the daughter of James Andrews of Scituate - who married oddly a Rice, Alice Rice. Her parentage i cannot ascertain in any capacity. Born in 1822 at Cranston is Daniel Bennett mariner. I suspect he is son of Joseph Bennett jr and named after Daniel Hudson. In 1815 Betsey Bennett of Cranston marries Jeffrey Mathewson of Scituate ( son of Asa). Could Betsey be the sister of Joseph Bennett Jr - and are Betsey and Joseph et ux the children of William Bennett and Hannah Hudson? In the will of Asa Mathewson he makes an Andrews the exceutor of his estate - all three of his wives were dead and Jeffrey was dead at Newport in 1847. the eldest boy Jeremiah was away. ( note that at this time 1774 - there were only TWO Andrews at Scituate - Jeremiah and James. Asa had a son Jeremiah ? and that Jeremiah Andews married a Mathewson ! William Mathewson b. 1823 at Mendon, Mass as son of Jeff and Betsey he dies in Newport in 1906. He is buired at the Common Burial Ground - actaully on the line of the Island but most definetly in the Common Burial Ground. His stone - is 15 at a diagonal from the stones of sea Captain John and Thomas Hudson of Newport. i found this to be quite a coincidence. William was a mariner. also that William Mathewson might be named after William Bennett. The Hudsons were ALL mariners at Cranston, Prov and Newport.
