I have my grandfathers, Stephen F. Brayton Jr., birth certificate from Fall River, MA. That lists his mother as Mary T. Peckham, b. in Fall River. However I have other data listing her as as being born in RI. The area around Fall River, Dartmouth, and Westport have changed between MA & RI, this may be part of the confusion. What you found in the 1880 census must be correct. It all fits the birth certificate except for her middle initial. I have 12 children listed for Stephen and Mary but the 1880 census should only list 5, in that 4 died before 1880 and 3 were born after 1880. I also have Caroline (Fish) Peckham listed as her mother but no father. That has not been authenticated. The only thing I have is Mary Thomas Peckham, b. Sept. 25, 1844, d. Jan 25, 1893, m. April 17, 1862 Stephen F. Brayton. You said her parents were b. RI, Who are they, and where in RI. If you have dates and pedigree that would be great. 1850 census includes Mary and other children as born PA. Also caroline born Pa. The caroline b. PA also found on some of the other census records. Can send the image for 1850. They are living in Tiverton, RI Father Russell Peckham.
