When Fall River, RI became Fall River, MA, Pawtucket which had been MA, became Pawtucket, RI. I wonder if this is what Frank was thinking of? At any rate, that all happened in the 1860's - much earlier than Frank's missing person. If one is looking at a location for one's ancestors that is in the central or northern part of the city, the whole issue of the border wouldn't come into play. It's rather like the real estate agents say....Location, location, location. There's an interesting bit of historical info about MA/RI boundary disputes involving Fall River (http://homepage.mac.com/joepowers/mill/rhode.html). Not sure how accurate the info on that page is, but I do remember reading something along those lines in a book about the history of the City and the fact that it causes confusion for genealogical researchers at times.
