It seems they may have been Quakers . The Quakers migrated from RI to CT and NY. In NY they went from Dutchess County north to Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties. Otsego County is west of Albany where another group of Quakers went. The earliest Ellis in Pittsfield, Otsego County appears to be Reuben. Also in that time frame the Ellises in Columbia and Rennselaer Counties included two Nathans and two Nicholases. Thanks very much for these comments. I have noticed, too, that some ELLISes were Quakers. There is no evidence that mine were. Christopher and his whole family were buried in the churchyard in back of the Methodist Church in Milford, Otsego Co., NY. Of course, he could have failed to keep up Quaker religious observances or have changed religion. I had not heard of a particular migration route for ELLISes before. That is good to know. Thanks again. I am printing out all of the emails I am receiving about ELLIS research. Jayne Have you checked the "Beekman Patent" for the name Ellis. I only have the copies for "B" surnames. Most of these records are available on NEHGS but everytime I go there, it seems to be down. There are also other patents in NY that were settled from RI/CT/MA, to pay for service in the Revolution. Jayne There were a group of Quakers, in the Beekman Patent. Would have to go back and check my notes, but one of my Baker ancester's belonged to this group. Of course we also had Loyalist and everyother thing you can think of, so.............
