Aloha Lorna: I find Caleb A. Carr as master of the 'Shaw Perkins,' a 55ton sloop built at Mystic in 1840 by the George Greeman & Co. In 1847, with Carr as master, she was lost at Desolation Island with her crew of 8, with, of course, Carr being amongst them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I also find the 193 ton schooner 'Raven's Wing,' also built in Mystic & launched in June, 1870 at the Hill & Grinnell shipyard. Capt Joseph York of Westerly, RI was to command her in the coastal coal trade. In Dec., 1872 she was dismasted & abandoned at sea, after being caught in a gale while bound from Philadelphia to Salem, MA with a load of coal. The crew was rescued by the brig Annie Brown of Wolfville, Nova Scotia & landed in Demerara, Guyana in Jan 1873. The crew, including Capt York, had been given up for lost before they finally arrived home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am hopeful you will find something of value to your research here. You are most welcome, Bill Waterhouse Mystic, CT < wm.r.waterhouse@mailstation.com > -END OF MESSAGE- -------------------------------------------------------------- Bill, Does the book have anything on the Amos York of CT. or the Carrs of RI? If so and there are too many, just first names and ca year I could narrow down my request considerably. Thank you so much for you offer.
