Hello friends and cousins, I am still back-tracking on my Exeter bunch of BRAMANs. The trail led "forward" to Smithfield, but now I am tracing BACKWARD to Newport. Am interested in Bramans there, especially names that may be patterned from Newport Bramans ( David, Abby, Elizabeth)--------here is my question: I have hardly been to Newport for research. WHERE IS a good place to look at old CHURCH RECORDS from say, 1700's time period? Am I too hopeful to think I can find any people by using church records that old??? Also, does anyone have a book "1782 R.I. Census"- reconstructed census? If so, were there any BRAMAN OR BRAYMAN in Newport? I previously did not look for Bramans in Newport, as I was only looking at Exeter and SK. Thanks if anyone can help! Jude in CT
Judi,Donna and Randall I believe the c1700 Bramans were from Middletown and went to Newport. I found a David Bramans will that d 1821 in Newport with a wife and three children. The N.K. line that Randall Weeks spoke of is the line of Steve, that I'll introduce to you at the end of May,when you grace us with your presence. In the mean time I'll scan and send you what I found if you think it may be a match. Charlie Charlie Carpenter Washington County,R.I.
