If you think that he served in North Carolina he may not be on the Federal Rolls that are at the archives. I would suggest that you check with the North Carolina State Archives as they have all the militia rolls. I am a member of the DAR so can do a look up on the DAR site to see if anyone has put in an application on him. I will let you know. Earlier this year I posted a query looking for information on Sylvester's birth/death. But now I am looking for someone who has a copy of Sylvester's military service during the Revolutionary War. It appears that Sylvester served in the navy in the state of North Carolina. I have been unable to locate a copy of his military service (the film at the National Archives that I need is one that is no longer available for rent and I'm not "willing" to purchase the film.) I have not been able to locate a member of the DAR who has made their application to NSDAR on Sylvester Pendleton's service so am making an appeal to the RI-GenWeb listers. Feel free to contact me off list ... thank you in advance for your help. Rhode Island to North Carolina?!? How common a migration pattern is this? I've been trying to solve my brickwall for a LONG time now and have only recently found ONE thing that MIGHT be of help! Martha (Speight) Field was head of household in Greene County, NC census in 1800 with 1 son and 2 daughters under 10 years old. Could John have been away fighting in a War or looking for land elsewhere at the time of the 1800 census? My brick wall is John Field(s) John Field(s) Sr. born 3 Dec 1763, Rhode Island died 29 Dec 1853, Henry County, TN married circa 1774 in Greene County, NC to Martha Speight born 7 Nov 1777 Greene County, NC, died 6 Sep 1867, Henry County, TN Census records and family bible records which clearly state Rhode Island as his birthplace and his birthdate are pretty well documented .... There is no 1810 Census for Greene County, NC (It was either lost or destroyed, can't remember which) but I assume they are there in 1810 since they are there in the 1830 Census for Greene County, NC as are sons John, Jr. and Michael Fields. Shortly after 1830, they moved with most of their children, and several Speight and Beaman families to Henry County, TN, where they show up on the 1840 and 1850 Census. And Martha shows up there as a widow in the 1860 census. There is no death record for John in TN. No marriage record in NC...nothing that shows his parents names or location in RI!!! I have a copy of his will from TN--nothing to help there! I can't turn up anything to tell me who his parent might have been in Rhode Island!!! "Field Genealogy" by Frederick C. Pierce hasn't been any help... ANY HELP or suggestions would be appreciated!
