    1. [RI] New England Ball Project needs data and photos
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ballproject Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.rhodeisland.unknown/2111/mb.ashx Message Board Post: First, the Project website http://newenglandballproject.com was refreshed today and I thought I would give an update on the Project progress for the last two years: Date......# People....# Ball...# Immigrants/Stray Branches 20 Dec 2008..51, 227...10,322.......63 / 45 15 Dec 2007..43,802...7,003.......45 / 38 15 Dec 2006..28,785...4,960......8 / 5 Second, I spent a lot of time in 2008 cleaning up files, rather than adding new people, and the website finally went on-line 30 September 2008. I am guessing that the number of people in the Project now represents under half of what I expect to have on-line over the next 5 years. Third, my nubby fingers can't do all of the data entry. A significant part of what is now on-line has come from other people's GEDCOMs (many thanks). As well, I have received emails with corrections and small additions, as well as marvelous photos. If you find someone from your lineage on the Project website, it is almost certain that you have SOME data that isn't in the Project yet and I would really appreciate hearing about it, especially corrections. Fourth, there are now 164 photos in the photo gallery of the Project website including a US president, a British Prime Minister, a movie/TV star or two, and a few obscure authors. I would like to have 10 times that many photos, if people will send them to me; JPEG files in the 300k to 1meg size let me do some adjustments, if needed. I do give credit to the source of data and photos, as can be seen on the website. Best wishes for the season, David G. 2. Harry Huntoon
    3. Thanks. What that tells me is that the RIVR CD was not prepared from the Deaths register for the City of Providence (and the other RI cities and towns), as this info is not present in the Register. In my gggm's case I took some time this morning and found out that the name of Kin2 was probably the name of a housekeeper for my gggm (at least this person was a housekeeper for other persons in census data). I expect she was the person who first reported the death. Now when I come across those on Ancestry, I'll be a bit more curious. -----Original Message----- From: rigenweb-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rigenweb-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of A.Harney Sent: Saturday, December 20, 2008 9:20 AM To: rigenweb@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RI] RIGENWEB Digest, Vol 3, Issue 266 I believe that often the kin entry on the RIVR CD was the local Medical Examiner or Coroner. 3. I believe there are two RI Vital Record CDs, in addition to Arnold's VR -- which is available on NEHGS online. Ancestry.com has Ancestry.com. Rhode Island Deaths, 1630-1930 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2000. It is the same as the text of the data CD by my experience. I threw the data CD which ran under Ancestry View in the trash a few years ago, when I found that the "kin" data was randomly corrupted. One of my direct ancestors listed were the same as those on the next data entry, a completely unrelated surname! (In that case, I did see the original entry on microfilm at RI Sec of State.) I would caution anybody to take with a grain of salt the "kin" data in that record on Ancestry.com! There is a different RI Vital Records CD. It was published by Family Tree Maker as CD#215. It is Vital Records Rhode Island 1500-1900 RI Vital Records New Series and RI Genealogical Register produced in collaboration with the RI Families Association. (c) 1999. It is useful, with the exception that it requires either FTM16 or a viewer available at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html The Vital Records New Series are various sources from Newport and Washington Counties, and East/West Greenwich. The RI Genealogical Register was published by RI Families Assn with Alden Beaman, Editor between 1985 and 1999. The volumes of the Register and the VRs are indexed by FTM. It has been exceedingly useful as a source particularly for abstracts of wills in RI before 1850. If there are other Datas CDs anyone knows of, please post!!! 3. I have a copy of the CD titled Vital Records of Rhode Island. (1) It requires Family Tree Maker 16 to run. (2) I am not willing to part with it, but would do a few lookups. In its present form, it's useless without FTM16. I only wish the data was in a format where it could be run with some other host. -----Original Message----- From: rigenweb-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rigenweb-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of M.
