Between the info I have from you and Charlie Carpenter I think that the Road (I out River in the title) probably was what we now call Rte 1. Take care, Donna
Thank you so much for the information. As far as the children of Ebenezer Force are concerned, this is what I have already: 1. William Chandler Force b. l793 Pomfret, mar. to Mary Ann Morse first wife. 2. Chandler W. Force - no birthdate,b/place, but supposedly married to a Betsy W.(?) the latter dying July 16, 1881 (age 81) which means she was born l800. I am confused that Nos. l and 2 have the same names but reversed. Maybe they are one and the same???? This could be an error in the notification where the register reversed the names. This must be Betsy W. Cody(or Cady) above. 3. Elisha Force July 31, 1783 - prob. Pomfret 4. Ebenezer Force Nov.ll, 1786 - prob. Pomfret 5. George Force Jan.25, 1797 - unsure of b/p I do not know if there are anymore children or not. No.l appears is our direct line. The children of No.l and Morse wife were all born in Wrentham, Mass. so perhaps Mary Ann came from there. I will re-check that. NO. l's second wife was Betsy W. Cody (or Cady) whom he married May 25, 1845 in Providence , so sounds like these two were one and same. B een searcing for Mary Ann Morse for years - she doesn't appear in the Rootsweb Morse records on line. Again, really appreciate your help. Frances fvinport@charter.net '
Frances, From Barbour Collection Pomfret Vital Records I found this Force, William Chandler s. of Ebenezer & Hannah b. Mar 13, 1793 Ebenezer Force m Hannah Chandler Feb. 8, 1781 Pomfret, Ct. The other children of Ebenezer and Hannah are listed, if you are interested email me. I did not find any listing for Mary Ann Morse, Mors, Morce listed in Pomfret. april
Hallo listers: Seeking information on:William Chandler Force b. l793 - believe born Pomfret, Conn. Died: Nov. 3, l862 in Providence C., R.I. First wife: <Mary Ann (Morse) Force b. abt. l801 probably Pomfret, Conn. Married in Pomfret 1822 Kn own children: William Horatio Tower Force b. l823 in Wrentham, Mass. Oliver Stratton Force b,. l824, Wrentham Mary Fisher Forceb. l827, Wrentham The mother died at a young age. They relocated from Wrentham to Providence C. sometime between 1827 but prior to l830 when Mary Ann Force died May 29 of that year. William Chandler Force married a second wife, Betsy W. Cady (or Cody) on May 25, 1845 in Providence C. R.I. It is believed either relatives or friends named Vose may have taken the three children in and they were then raised under the Vose name. Oliver S. Force above is also believed to be Oliver S. Vose. An old family Bible currently with descendent in Oklahoma shows the FORCE name after the Vose name for the older entries. Oliver S. Vose was living in Wayne, Kennebec C., Maine where he married in l846 a Hannah A. Berry - children were: Geo. Wm., Betsy, Alfred Milton, Frank, Lucius Edward Vose, all born in Maine except for the last one born in Iowa in 1859/60. Oliver S. Vose started moving west about l852 stopping en route in Clayville, N.Y. and then in Seneca Falls, N.Y. during the l850's finally arriving in Iowa where they appear in the l860 census for Clinton C. We believe these two Oliver';s are one and the same as the elderly Iowa relations mentioned R.I. and Maine in family discussions. Would welcome hearing from any descendents of William Horatio Tower Force or Mary Fisher Force above who could perhaps could provide additional information. Many thanks--- in anticipation! wife of Nathan C. Sprague, of Cumberland, b.c. 1830, 1909 for anyone who's not familiar with the local Cumberland, RI "Valley Breeze" newspaper, there's been a weekly column on this lady and her writings, which include four volumes of hand-written notes, by Valley Breeze editor Marcia Green ... very interesting. This URL explains the nature of the column, started in 2004, and includes a partial obituary: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nanc/arnoldvr/aqwg62.htm#1765
Please put the name you are researching in the Subject field, not just "lookups". Thanks, Barb

I started to watch this one - African American Lives - but I fell asleep - hope to catch it again - the part I saw looked really interesting. PBS has great programs on history etc.... Hope they will be broadcasting all these programs wherever you all live. Donna, yes, I was heartbroken when I saw that when their mother died in 1908 the boys were all "farmed out" to different people and places. But thank you anyway. I will contact the Rhode Island Archives. Thank you for taking the time to help.
