I need some help here. I am looking for a family connection between Cornell Littlefield b 1782 p Block Island. and my g grandfather William Littlefield b 3-17-1828 p New Port. William named his first born son Cornell which was common to name a son after a father or relative. Cornell was a slave trader and wealthy, so was William from the beginniing of his adult life in Ohio where he eventually died. He married Rachle McRobert 1851 in Michigan.

Hi Carol , I have a lot of Smith's in my family , all from the east coast so I would like to know something of your Smith's . Maybe I will find some info to share with you . Donna
Hi Karen, Have you sent away for death certificates yet? The death certificates should give the names of the parents of Frederick and Anna, but the information is not always accurate, since the person giving the information for the death certificate may not have known the parents names themselves. You can also check newspapers on microfilm at your local library to see if an obituary was published. If you don't live in RI, your local library can order microfilms of RI newspapers through interlibrary loan. In the 1910 U. S. Census for Bristol, E.D. 4, page 83B, Frederico and Anna or Annie were living on what looks like Bradford St. in Bristol, No. 170. Frederico was 30 years old, born in Italy. Anna or Annie's age is not clear--it is most likely 30, but could be 31 or 32. Anna was also born in Italy. They had been married for 4 years. This was a first marriage for each. Anna had had two children and both were then living. The children were both born in RI, Frances, age 3 and Bartholomew, age 1 and 1/2. Frederico said he immigrated in 1900 and had filed his papers for citizenship. Anna had immigrated in 1903. Frederico was a shoemaker in a rubber mill. They had 4 boarders living with them who were also shoemakers in the rubber mill. So, if you haven't searched these papers down already, you can also locate their marriage certificate--since they were married about 1905 or 1906--and Frederico's citizenship papers. This link gives information about tracking down vital records in RI. http://vitalrec.com/ri.html Also, if you can figure out the church, you can obtain marriage information from the church records. The Ellis Island website has the following record for an Anna Teodosio [www.ellisisland.org] First Name: Anna Last Name: Teodosio Ethnicity: Italian, South Last Place of Residence: Scafat Date of Arrival: Jun 29, 1903 Age at Arrival: 17y Gender: F Marital Status: S Ship of Travel: Sicilian Prince Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0014 The age doesn't line up, but the year of immigration matches (although Anna may not have given the correct year to the census taker). In the manifest Anna said she was a dressmaker. She said she was going to Wilmington, Delaware to the home of an uncle, Vincenzo Abati or Abate. Does that mean anything to you? She was traveling with Tommaso Caliendo, age 33, married, a baker, who was going to the same location. Vincenzo was also his uncle. Tommaso was also from Scafat or Scafati. [There are actually two manifest entries for Anna--the other one says that the person was an aunt, Vincenza Abati or Abate, and that Vincenza was Tommaso's cousin.] If this is the right Anna, it would be a good piece of information, because, in order to track down ancestors in Italy, you need to know the town, and it's not easy to find out the town, as most records here in the U.S. will just put down Italy--no town or city. In the Ellis Island records there is (1) First Name: Fiderico Last Name: Cavaliera Ethnicity: Italian Last Place of Residence: Naccra, Italy Date of Arrival: Dec 21, 1900 Age at Arrival: 57y (?) Gender: M Marital Status: M Ship of Travel: Furst Bismarck Port of Departure: Napoli, Italy Manifest Line Number: 0018 Again, the year of immigration is right, but the age doesn't line up. The transcriber questioned the age, but on the manifest it is definitely not 17--the writer had a weird way of making a 5--so I think 57 is probably right and this is not your Frederico. Also, in Ellis Island (2) First Name: Federico Last Name: Cavaliere Ethnicity: Italian Last Place of Residence: Napoli Date of Arrival: Aug 12, 1902 Age at Arrival: 22y Gender: M Marital Status: S Ship of Travel: Hohenzollern Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0029 This is a better possibility -- arrival is off by a couple of years but the age is right. If you can get his citizenship papers, the file should contain the ship he arrived on and the date. This Federico was bound for NY and his relative was Pasquale Mansione?? (unclear) at what may be 2nd Ave. in NY. I could not decipher Federico's occupation, but it doesn't look like shoemaker. The next entry isn't your guy, because he's married--but the interesting thing is he is from Scafati (3) First Name: Federico Last Name: Cavallaro Ethnicity: Italian Last Place of Residence: Scafati Date of Arrival: Aug 18, 1902 Age at Arrival: 23y Gender: M Marital Status: M Ship of Travel: Roma Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0006 He's the right age, though, and the interesting thing is that he was headed for Providence, RI. He was a "taylor." [Could the record saying he was married be an error?] There were quite a few passengers from Scafati on this ship, including two more Cavallaros--Carmine, age 50??, married, a baker; and Filomena, age 15, a domestic. They were both headed to New Haven, CT, he to join his wife and sons, she to her cousin, Raffaele Cavallaro--all living on Hill St. in New Haven. There is also a Federico Cavalloro who came from "Scafali" in 1898--not your guy, but Scafati seems to have been crawling with Federico Cavalleros! (4) He was also headed to New Haven, to his brother. First Name: Federico Last Name: Cavalloro Ethnicity: Italian Last Place of Residence: Scafali Date of Arrival: Mar 30, 1898 Age at Arrival: 49y Gender: M Marital Status: S Ship of Travel: Ems Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0024 It's always a challenge to track people down on ship's manifests, because of all the spelling variations. You may be able to come up with more possibilities. The following site is helpful http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/intro.html Once you're into searching for records in Italy, a very helpful book is Italian Genealogical Records: How to Use Italian Civil, Ecclesiastical, & Other Records in Family History Research by Trafford Cole. My mother purchased a family portrait plan from Lorings when my daughter was born. We never used it after her first birthday portrait until we made an attempt when she was 6 years old and they were out of business. That is 30 years ago. I was told then that the entire chain of Lorings studios had closed because they owner had retired and that I had no way of recouping my losses. The Loring Studios in Brockton, Mass closed without any notice as did the one in Attleboro. Hi Kent, Some of the children of James and Honor are in the Westerly, RI town records. James's will is also a source for children: it named James, Thomas, Nathaniel, John, Joseph, Jonathan and a daughter who married William Wood. I descend from James with the line going down to my great great grandmother, Louisa Adams who married Joseph Babcock Hall. The line from James and Honor goes to Joseph who married Mary Crandall; Ebenezer Adams and Martha Taylor (he also married Sarah Fanning and my ex-sister-in-law descended from that marriage!); Joseph A. Adams who married Lydia Tefft; then Louisa who married Joseph Babcock Hall. My great grandfather was Joseph and Louisa's son Albert who married Hannah Maria Miller. Albert and Hannah had my grandmother, Mary Miller Hall. Donna in RI
Thank you Bill, We need to try to refrain from off topic subjects due to the problems that arise from them When off topic subjects get posted I start receiving complaints from the persons who do not care to read them, true they could use their delete key, but they have a right to complain, some of them used to voice their complaints to the list which would soon start some rather hostile discussions that would get out of hand, for that reason I try to stop the off topic subjects before they go too far As far as me making the calls, most are Rootsweb rules which I have to enforce For the benefit for all subscribers here is a link to the rules of this mail list, most are Rootsweb, some are mine, it may be a good idea for everyone to check them out http://www.rootsweb.com/~rikent/aup.html I may sound mean by threatening to ban people for breaking the rules but in all of the years I've had this list I have only banned 2 persons, one for posting a message containing very foul language and the other for advertising on the list to sell his services Arlan Maguire... ********************************************************************* List Administrator: RIGENWEB Mail List ********************************************************************* RIGENWEB Mail List Acceptable Use Policy http://www.rootsweb.com/~rikent/aup.html ******************************************************************** Email list-adminis@cox.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Waterhouse" <wm.r.waterhouse@mailstation.com> To: <RIGENWEB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 06, 2006 1:19 PM Subject: [RIGENWEB] RE: OFF-LIST TOPICS > > Arlan; I must apologize for my posting on the subject of AOL & Yahoo. Hi there, I'm new to this list and I'm just trying to find out how I can obtain the death certificate for my great great grandmother, who died in Rhode Island. Unfortunately I don't have a date of death for her - the last trace I have of her is on the 1920 census, near the coal mines in Providence. I can't find her on the 1930 census, so it's quite possible her death was between 1920-1930. Her name was Catherine Hart, her previous married name was Hall, and her maiden name was Quinn. If anyone can point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated! Thanks, Gill London, England. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
