    1. Day in Smithfield
    2. Looking for info on the Day families from Smithfield. The main one I am looking for is a Samuel who in 1754 married a Amie Plimpton. They had at least 6 kids in Smithfield. Any info on Day's from this area would be wonderful. Thank you. Dawn Pratt

    3. I just noticed that too, Arlan. I think what happens is an incoming email is designated as SPAM and the person replying forgets to change that incoming email to read: "Rescue Selection" (at least that's what you have to do in the McAfee Spam Killer program) so it continues to read as SPAM. I'm not sure, but I think it originated with Charlie (not pointing fingers Charlie) but he would have to be the one to change it since apparently my email to him indicated it was SPAM, which of course, it isn't. 3. Jim, Thank you. Just as I was about to send my email to Charlie, my wonderful Dell wireless mouse froze up and I had to reconnect my old mouse before sending it. I hadn't read your email until after I sent it. Thank you. I thought I had seen it written somewhere on the CD once before. I appreciate the information. Now, it leads to another question: What Version of FTM do you have? I have the new one (2006) and do not have the "Go To" menu under the "Edit". I have (had) to page through one by one which is very frustrating. I remember having it on my old FTM (11). Any ideas? Thanks again. 3. The version of FTM on my computer is an old one: version 11, 26 Jun 03. I don't update it since I don't use it for my genealogy data--I use RootsMagic. However, it seems like the "Go To" function should be available somewhere in the newer versions. If you can't find it, then use the "Contents" tab and go through the table of contents on Beaman's Rhode Island VR CD #215 as I mentioned in my first post. 1. LADD, LEWIS, PARKER, HAWKINS, BURLESON
    2. Bill Ladd
    3. Hello- I am looking for any info on THOMAS GORDON LADD born in RI 1784, maybe Kent Co., died 1856 in Madison Co., NY. His wife was ABIGAIL born in RI c1783, died circa late 1860s in Madison Co., NY (looking for her maiden name). They had a son JOHN born in RI c 1816-1818, daughters MARY and LYDIA born RI circa 1820, and a daughter PHEBE born RI in 1826. I know according to deeds in Coventry and W Greenwich, RI and censuses in NY that the family seems to have moved from RI to upstate NY between 1828-1830. According to a deed in Coventry, RI in 1810 THOMAS' middle name was GORDON (relation to GORTONS?). In this deed he was GIVEN land from ELIZABETH LADD LEWIS & her husband SOLOMON LEWIS. From the sounds of the deed, he may have been a relative of Elizabeth, possibly a son. All three principles in the deed are listed as living in Voluntown, CT. In a previously found deed, Elizabeth bought the same tract of land from her father JOHN LADD in 1785, in which she was listed as a single woman. If Thomas is her son, he may have been illegitimate. I found other deeds where THOMAS had dealings with other Ladds of the JOHN/ELIZABETH LADD family members (as per the Warren book on the Ladd family); sometimes selling to one another and as witnesses at other times. Some of the other family names mentioned in the deeds as well as the Warren book are: LEWIS, PARKER, HAWKINS & BURLESON. It seems pretty obvious that my THOMAS LADD is well-connected to this wide-ranging Ladd family of RI, but I am unable to prove how. Sorry for the long note, but if anyone has any clues it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much... Bill Ladd Cortland, NY __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. I found the list of abbreviations on the CD as follows click "Edit" in the upper menu bar click "Go To" in the drop-down box select "R.I. Vital Records: New Series, Volume 10" under page number enter "xvii" (without the quotes) It starts with the town abbreviations then gives the others which are continued on the next page. The abbreviations may be in other volumes, but that's the first place where I found them. You can get there another way by clicking on the "Contents" tab at the right side of the window. Next you scroll down to the same book (RI VR, vol. 10) and select "Preface" in the lower box. Each volume of the New Series has its own preface, so you may want to print out some of the relevant pages from all of them. Jim B.
