    3. It's been a very long time since I've posted. But I was going through some pictures I've had stored and thought I'd share one of them. The upper left is Sarah Marble Brownell, daughter of Perry Brownell and Susan Russell Howland (Perry is from the Little Compton Brownells and Susan is from the Henry Howland line). Sarah married William Taber Lavare, upper right. Both Sarah and William died violent deaths: William was mugged and died of an aneurysm and Sarah was killed in a train crash. Bottom left is William and Sarah's son William Taber Lavare Jr. (Another son, Arnold, remained in Little Compton.) He married a British girl named Elizabeth Hughes who came to this country seeking employment as a nanny. William and Elizabeth had one child, Mary Hughes Lavare, lower right. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Shores/1549/genealogy/7.jpg Another poster, Betty, and I share the Lavare line. William Sr.'s parents were Epaphroditus Lavare and Rhoda Manchester. When Epaphroditus was lost at sea, Rhoda married James Clarke and had a daughter. Betty comes through this daughter's line, so we are half-cousins. Karen Flanders Eddy in wet CT

The antecedents of this paragraph in my previous message were unclear. These are the children of John-3 and Mary Greene. It would appear that the Philip Greene who m(1) Hannah Potter and m(2) Mary Baker, is the Philip named in the will of John Greene proved in Exeter in 1752. The children listed above come from this will. Philip of West Greenwich m(2) in 1783, Mary Sweet. As I suggested in earlier posts there are three contemporaneous Philips in RI. Philip of Warwick, Philip of West Greenwich, and Philip of Exeter. I couldn't find Philip of Exeter in the "standard" genealogies and asked the question where he fit. I should have looked in the genealogy I published in 1993 because when I did, there he was. I hope that clarifies things. Bill Wright

    3. Hi How did you arrive at the children of Philip and Mary Greene? Or is this a list of John Greene's children? If Philip m 1st Hannah Potter, and had Prudence and Mary 2nd he m Mary Baker, 1750 3rd he m Mary Sweet, 1783 He d 1785. So who was the mother of any other children, born to Philip? And if there were others, I do not think it would be by Mary, who is named in his will. Most of the land transactions that I have found in Exeter are between Philip Greene & Mary, his wife, and Thomas Joslin & his wife Sarah. Thomas Joslin's will, had wife Sarah and children Henry, Thomas, John, Potter, Freeborn (son), Sarah, Benjamin & Clarke, last 6 under age ment his will dtd 21 July 1772 pvd Ex 11 Aug 1782. (Ex 3:89; 13:156) <more and more questions> Bonnie

    3. Ok, I don't know how I missed it. I should have checked my own book and not just the earlier Green genealogies. Page 123 of "Ancestors and Descendants of William Browning Greene and Mary Hoxsie Lewis with Allied Families." Here is a list of libraries with a copy of my book <http://www.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/library.html> John-3 Greene (James-2, John-1 of Q) had a son Philip named in his will proved in Exeter in 1752. John-3 names his wife, Mary in the will. LaMance is in error with the list of children she showed for this family. I don't know from where she got the list. The children I show are: Mary who m John Eldred. (note John Eldred did not marry, Mary, the daughter of John-3 (Benjamin-2, John-1 of Q) as published in some genealogies.) Philip James Sarah who m Mr. Bennett. Ann who m Mr. Clark (William Clarke?) Martha who m Joseph Matteson. Elizabeth. James-2 (John-1 of Q) m(1) Elizabth Jenkins; m(2) Ann. James-2 had two known children names in his will: John and James. I could find nothing on James-3. Bill Wright
