    2. To join NEHGS go to this web page. http://www.newenglandancestors.org/membership/levels/ if you want information on research services there is a link with lots of information on the Main page at www.newenglandancestors.org I have also used research services and their copying service. I send them $65.00 for an hours work on a specific person and got back a full report with all the sources they used and copies of pertinent data. While they didn't find my specific person, they gave me a lot of ideas for further research and send a full record of sources they checked so I would not duplicate the work. I used the copying service for copies of probate records that I found listed in an index that was pubished in another on line database. NEHGS had the original records on microfilm so they copies the pages I wanted and mailed to me. For $75 I think you will be very pleased with the investment. I have only been back East to the library once, but during that afternoon was able to view Massachusetts birth records for my paternal grandmother and starting there, went back and found the records I needed to prove her line to Governor William Bradford. With that data I was able to later expand the research and fill out a lineage society application for the Alden Kindred. I couldn't have been happier that day! Sandy in Colorado.

    1. best research value
    2. I have to vote for NEHGS too, its my most valuable subscription. Much cheaper than Ancestry.com and the best part is that the NEHGS materials are true source records. Not a collection of names and dates that have to remain suspect until you verify it. When I was able to pull up an image of the actual town clerks hand written entry of my gr gr grandfathers birth and learn his mother's maiden name I was hooked!! You just cannot beat NEHGS if you are researching in Mass and RI. -- Sandy from Colorado. Society or the RIHS. 1. NEGHS and Connecticut though...
    2. When I visited in person last year in October, I was disappointed that their collection of Connecticut on line and in the research rooms there was very scant, even they told me so. But a good source of genealogical information is the Killingly Historical Society, they have a nice collection there and do independent research projects there too. 3. Nina, Depends on what you are looking for. NEHGS has online stuff that you can access. If you go to their website www.newenglandancestors.org it will show what's available. RIHS doesn't have online availability of records so unless you can get there to do research I wouldn't think it was money well spent. Stefanie

    3. Good Morning. So sorry for sending this message to the entire list last night but since I did would sure appreciate any advice from you about where I would get the best research opportunity for my buck. Nina I would like your advice since I have been thinking about joining the New England Historical Society or the RIHS. Which one would allow more search materials?

    1. Trip was great!
    2. Nina
    3. Hi Jane. Have been meaning to write and tell you how wonderful the trip was. The conference was educational and we enjoyed touring the city after the conference each day. The first evening we ventured out and went by Wales and Johnson University and I noted the dome on top of the church. I was thrilled to discover it was the Beneficent Congregational Church. We did not locate it on our first trip to Providence three years ago. We went in the adjacent building but could not find anyone there to give us a tour of the old church. My friend was a little spooked walking back to the Westin Hotel that night. Friday night nurses from Texas, Tennessee, and Tina and I took the trolley to Brown University where we walked through the campus and surrounding streets. A kind person stopped and asked if we were lost. She took us all to the Big Fish for supper. Saturday night we walked up to Federal Hill and enjoyed supper at the Old Canteen. Sunday some nurses from Maryland joined us as we took the ferry to Newport after the conference. I kept imagining Solomon and Isaac Tyler sailing their ships up that bay. I tried not to bore Tina too much with family history but at one point she said I was better than the locals in explaining Rhode Island history. It would have been great to get together but maybe we can on my next trip. I would like your advice since I have been thinking about joining the New England Historical Society or the RIHS. Which one would allow more search materials? My main passion is for finding the family of Isaac Tyler and to discover who was his wife but then I may shift gears someday and start searching for more information about the line to Roger Williams or the Paine's, Lindenberger's and Sprague's. I have been busy with summer work at the hospital, gardening, and a summer cold. How are you? Has Rhode Island dried out yet? Best Wishes, Nina

    3. Donna, that's it! I hadn't checked the Mass. VR data base because I figured they had probably married after 1910 - and I didn't have James' first name, either. This is going to make a friend of mine very happy. Many, many thanks.
