Hi All, Who is in charge of maintaining the cemetery lists these day at RIGEN? I have pictures taken recently of all stones in three ancient South County family cemeteries and perhaps they will help someone. Fred

Thank you, Arlan! It really is getting confusing, with so many old books available on the net or on CDs. And since Ancestry hosts Rootsweb (I think), the whole situation can be murky! Hi! It has come to my attention of a History & Culture Fair which will be the Second Annual one of The Mashantucket Pequot & Research Center to be held Saturday,October 20,2007; from 10 AM to 3 PM,.This is behind the Foxwoods Casino. The event is free and open to the public. The main focus is on Eastern Connecticut and Western Rhode Island but participants from the greater Southern New England area are encouraged to participate. They actually encourage groups to bring items to sell, have tables for displays and the materials of groups,if you belong to an organization that may want to participate contact David Naumec at [email protected] ,. This event includes historical and genealogical emphasis so it would appear family associations, hereditary groups such as DAR,Mayflower Society,as well as historical associations, and museums who can may want to consider participating.I know some, perhaps most, have been contacted in our two state area. I am sharing through "Bcc:" with Mr.Naumec. I used a mailing for information on this event.I did not include everything.FYI! Regards, Scott Bill Hirst Scott Bill Hirst 20 Maple Court Ashaway,RI 02804-1301 USA (401)377-4643 Note:Telephone if you need quick reply.
Jane, Here is the link to their website, they do list the CD as being available http://www.rigensoc.org/index.htm I guess I sound too strict about posting of web sites that sells genealogy information/products, I apologize for that I have no problem with posting of the various genealogy societies sites, my objection is to the posting of private web sites requiring fees for genealogy information which usually can be found free somewhere on the internet One good example is that there is one person I know of who sells information that he copies from the usgenweb archives, he insists that he is not selling the information but is charging fees to send copies of the information to whoever wants it(?) The Lawton Issue was edited and published by Anthony J. Fusco starting in 1988, and continuing on a quarterly basis until Tony's untimely death in 1995. I'm not sure which one you're looking for, but the one of the first 25 years of RHODE ISLAND ROOTS is available again or soon will be, from RIGS, P.O. Box 433, Greenville, RI 02828. It was out of print for a while. I think someone else gave you the website. The Beaman disk, with the full run of RHODE ISLAND GENEALOGICAL REGISTER on it, should be available from Ancestry or other vendors who sell their disks. Jane
Hi again, Stefanie, I realized you are looking for the CD with RI Roots which is NOT the same as FTM CD 215. The one from FTM has old issues of the now-defunct Rhode Island Genealogical Register as well as the Beaman's New Series, Rhode Island Vital Records on it. I am still on a brickwall search for my ggggrandfather whose name was John Chambers and who seemed to have family in RI. I believe I have found him in Orange Co NY and I have found a John Chambers who married a Eavis Field in New York (probably NYC) in 1761. I have reason to believe he was related to Elizabeth Chambers who married Peleg Briggs in E. Greenwich RI in 1784 and to Mary Chambers who married Gardner Hopkins in 1774 and lived in Orange Co NY. Anybody with help or suggestions? Hi Stefanie Go to this URL and you will find it. http://www.rigensoc.org/publications.htm Rhode Island Roots is the Quarterly put out by the Rhode Island Genealogical Society and just go down their Listing of Available Books, Etc.. and you will note the Computer CD you are looking for. . Good Luck Pat R
I would love to get this CD if I could find it anywhere. They tell me it is family tree maker #215. I have not been successful in finding it and the society itself doesn't sell the CD. Stefanie
For Nancy and others who've asked, the Clemence book is available from the Rhode Island Genealogical Society, PO Box 433, Greenville, RI 02828, or will be by later this week. They have set a price of $31. for members of RIGS, $35 for non-members, plus $4.50 shipping, and RI addresses must add sales tax. It's nice to see my court books on the list of RI books that some people think is important! I wonder if that accounts for a sudden surge in orders from Picton Press? They are available from me directly, too, as is Larkin. See my rather antiquated website for details. Jane www.genbooks.com

Since you all are discussing the 10 top Family genealogy books, I thought I would throw this at you. NEWMAN HERRING (HERRINGTON/HEIRING/HARIN etc) was last found in Newport in 1782. After that he simply disappears. Anybody know where I should look to try and track him down? Linda L. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
