The people weren't all in Rhode Island, I can tell you that, there is great testimony in the actual report that I received from RI State Archives, it's about 80 pages or so, there was testimony from Council members and tribal members. Not all tribal members were for selling their lands to the state and becoming "citizens" of the US, not all agreed, but it appears they did come to the final decision to do it. Hello listers, This list is from the report obtained at the RI State Archives. I'm posting the names of the Narrgansett Tribal Members who were on the tribal list in 1881 and who received compensation for their tribal lands. Many people have contacted me off list asking me if I had such a list, etc. I thought this would be a good place to post the names. I do not have the genealogies of the people listed though, so please no request. The full report is available at the RI State Archives, it is titled, "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations..Narragansett Tribe of Indians, Report of the Committee of Investigation; A Historical Sketch and Evidence Taken made to the House of Representatives, at its January Session A.D. 1880, published Providence: E. L. Freeman & Company, Printers to the State, 1880. You can get the entire report (80+ pages) from the RI State Archives. Appendix: The names of pesons, members of the Narragansett Tirbe of Indians, who are each equitably entitled to one equal proportionate share of the sum of five thousand dollars to be paid by the State of Rhode Island as purchazse money for the tribal lands of said Narragansett Tribe of Indians, as decreed by the Supreme Court, August 19th, A.D. 1881, viz: Elizabeth Bent, 39 years of age Joseph Bent, 49 years of age Wm. Thanks Bonnie, This is a project my cousin in CA is working on. I do remember this Eddy when I was a kid in the ' 50s, he was " Uncle Alf " to us. Like I said he married my g'mother's sister. She and my g'mother were from Norway. When I knew them they lived in Groton, CT. If you ( or anyone else ) is interested I can get info on " Uncle Alf's children and etc. from my cousin. Thanks again, Bob A.
