Riddle >Cc: RIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com > >Hi Stan, > I looked up your line, as much as I could find, a month ago. Samuel was in a deed record: >15 Jul 1865 Samuel T. Riddle to daughter Martha Dixon; land, for natural affection and for the particular attention she paid me and her mother Mary Riddle my wife in our affliction and under the infirmities of age. > That's the only record I could find of Samuel T. Riddle, checking deeds and wills. I found Benjamin Riddle in McMinn Co., TN and his probate, which named his children. > >The deed books of McMinn Co., TN indicate that Benjamin's wife's name was Frances Riddle. Benjamin died before Nov 1833. He had sons Lewis and Abraham. > >On 9 feb 1841 Francis Crews, James B. Riddle, and John Miller, guardians, for Benjamin Riddle Jr., minor heir of Benjamin Riddle dec'd, to John McMahan. > >6 Nov 1842 William S. Ragan, who had married Mary a daughter of Benjamin Riddle, dec'd and her brother, Lewis Riddle, each conveyed to J. Meigs their one sixth interest in lands. > >27 Feb 1852 Mary L. Riddle to William A.G. Reed; her 1/4 part, as heir of Jeremiah Reed dec'd to land, subject to widow's dower. (Her maiden name must have been Reed - Jeremiah was probably her father.) > >17 Oct 1849 George Clark to William Stephenson; 1 Jun 1852, witness James B. Riddle has removed to Oregon. > > >The problem is that I did not see anything that ties your Samuel T. Riddle to Benjamin Riddle. And also, where did Benjamin Riddle come from? He may tie to Zachariah Riddle of Jefferson Co., TN or John Riddle of Jefferson Co., TN because of the following deeds: 27 Nov 1833 Lewis and Abraham Riddle to TIDENCE LANE; their 2/6 part of land whereon Gilbert Cruse now lives and the same divised to them by their father Benjamin Riddle. >20 May 1841 James B. Riddle to Frances Crew (Frances Riddle); his share of land purchased as one of the guardians of Benjamin Riddle, minor heir of Benjamin Riddle dec'd whereon PLEASANT W. LANE now lives. Apparently Frances, wife of Benjamin Riddle, married a man named Crews, because of the above deeds. TIDENCE LANE descends from Tidence Lane, b. 1724 in Maryland, who started the Bent Creek Baptist Church in Whitesburg, Hamblen Co., TN which is right by Jefferson Co., TN. Zachariah Riddle and John Riddle lived in Jefferson Co., TN. They may have come from the Pittsylvania Co., VA - Rowan Co., NC Riddle's who came down from Maryland. Tidence Lane came from Maryland too. The Riddle children attended the Bent Creek Baptist Church. Tidence Lane Sr. died in 1806. He had a son Aquilla Lane, who had sons Tidence Lane and Pleasant Lane, who are mentioned in the above deeds with Benjamin Riddle's family in McMinn Co., TN. This may have nothing to do with Samuel T. Riddle, or everything to do with Samuel T. Riddle. That's all I've been able to find. Wish I'd found something to tie all these folks together. Mary Hill Benjamin Riddle of McMinn Co., TN the Riddle's who came down from Maryland and Loudoun Co., VA. That's who Stephen Riddle of Rowan Co., NC belongs to. > >That's about all I know. Does anyone else have any ties that could help here? > >Mary Hill > > > >At 07:06 PM 3/15/1999 -0600, you wrote: >>Sorry to bother you but I haven't had a response since our first email some time ago. Have you found anything on Samuel T. RIDDLE who was born in Rowan Co., NC abt. 1777? I have info on his wife (little) and all his children but do not know who his parents are. Some think it's James RIDDLE while others believe it to be Stephen. Please, if you could, point me in the right >>direction. I've been hung up on this for nearly a year. Thanks. Stan >>Kelley >> >>
