    1. [RIDDLE-L] My Line of Riddles - kind of long
    2. Janice M. Burkhardt
    3. Hi Riddle "cousins": After putting this together realized it is rather long and rambling... sorry. But maybe somebody will find an answer they have been looking for. Jan in Omaha, NE _____________________ I am descended from the Riddles that settled in Monson Massachusetts that G. T. Ridlon lists in the "Ancient Ryedales.." book starting on page 277 with Thomas Ridel (Riddell) b. Tyrone County Ireland came to US in 1739 and d. 1809. My direct line continues through his son Joseph b. 1763 Monson, MA m. Mary (or Polly)-8 children. Next in my direct line was his son Freeborn Moulton Riddle B. Sept. 18, 1793, m. (first) Abigail Chaffee of Alexander NY-8 children, Next was his son Trumbull Cary Riddle b. Aug 12, 1823 m. Sarah Maragret Colt (Lockport NY)... in 1856 moved to Grinnell, Iowa then to Chapin, Franklin County, Iowa where he is buried in the old Chapin Cemetery along with several riddles. From that point forward to the living my records are pretty complete if anybody is any of Trumbull's descendents... Trumbull Cary had two sons, William Avery and Herman Cary and three daughters, (that lived past childhood) (2 daughters and 1 son died as infants). Trumbull Cary Riddle, along with several other Riddles, are buried in the Old Chapin Cemetery near Hampton, Iowa. In 1981, Mr. Reuben Burmester of Hampton Historical Society went to the cemetery and reported that in addition to Trumbull's tombstone there was a McCord child [one of Trumbull's daughters married a McCord] on Lot 47. On Lot 79 there are 6 Riddle tombstones. J.S. Riddle - Father Nov 5, 1827-Feb 27, 1906; F. A. Riddle, Mother Aug. 12, 1828-Dec. 6, 1904; Myrtle Riddle Sept 15, 1878-Feb 8, 1901; Maudie Riddle, daughter of W.H. and A.V. Riddle Dec. 12, 1883-March 28, 1889; W.H. Riddle Nov. 18, 1863-Mar 4, 1925; A.V. Riddle (Mrs. W.H)Aug 4, 1866-Nov. 13, 1941. In addition he discovered William Avery Riddle (son of Trumbull Cary or T.C. as he was known)is buried at the Hampton cemetary on Lot 25 with 3 others (his wife and her parents). In the Franklin County, Iowa Clerks Office he also found a Gustina Riddle death record that states that she died December 4, 1898 and was 75 years of age at death. She died in Westfork Twonship and is buried in Hall Town Cemetery, Franklin County, Iowa.
