    3. Thank you for this Ridley source. Several of us have been working hard to identify the parents of George Ridley. I found good material in the TN State Archives last week which confirms that he does not descend from the Nathaniel Ridley family of Isle of Wight Co. and Southhampton Co., VA. George Ridley told his children he was born at Guilford Co. Courthouse in NC. His children said he was born in VA. He received land from James Butler, who called him "his nephew" in about 1750 - Amelia Co., VA. George Ridley was on the Holston River by 1769, and went to Nashville with James Robertson to settle the area. His descendants were important in the community.
