The bottom line is that my g-g grandfather, James Riddle (1822-1867) named his son, my g-grandfather Benjamin Britton Riddle (1851-1928) in honor of Elizabeth Britton (1794-1835 ) and her father Benjamin Britton of Rutherford County, NC. What was the Britton connection or why did he do that? The Britton family connection to the Riddle's came as a result of our connection to the Arrowood family. The Arrowood and Riddle families were neighbors in Pensacola, Yancey County, NC. Benjamin Tyre Riddle (1800-1875) and his wife Rachel Austin (1803-1855?) were friends and neighbors of James Arrowood (1794-1845) and his wife Elizabeth Britton (1794-1835). Ben T. Riddle's daughter "Nellie" Elendor Riddle (1824-1898) married the son of James and Elizabeth Britton Arrowood, John Jackson Arrowood (1821-Aft.1900) on March 10, 1844. My g-g grandfather James Riddle and his wife Elizabeth Hensley (1831-1866) named their 2nd son Benjamin Britton Riddle. He was born Jan. 28, 1851. John Jackson and Nellie Elendor Riddle Arrowood named their 4th son Benjamin Britton Arrowood. As I said in my last message on this subject, my g-grand father B. Britton Riddle named his son "Britt" William Britton Riddle. My grandfather Lunel McGilvary Riddle (1877-1953) named his 2nd son James Britton Riddle (Jan. 1896-May 1896). I am indebted to Shirley Skeen Borden of Hayward, CA who provided much of the information on ARROWOOD/RIDDLE connection 1997-1998 and to Ralph Dean Clark of Los Angeles, CA who has provided a web page which documents and supplements the ARROWOOD connection. you can find Ralph's web page at: http://www.geocities.com/~ralphinla/arrowood.htm Bob, At this point, I still have not established a connection between your James or Brittian Riddle, b. 1814 and my Riddle family but I think that Wilkes and Rutherford Counties, NC would be a good place to start. A lot of Riddles also migrated to the mountains of NC and TN from Maryland and PA by the way of VA. If I dig up any more I'll let you know. In the meantime keep me posted on your progress.
