    3. Need some help here... My brother emailed regarding a plaque and some gravestones that he came upon while hiking in the Appalachian Trail... I am still a bit confused on what he is saying so I will post the message that he sent to me: ---- I came across three graves. Two were brothers killed by Confederate Soldiers on their return home. And the third was a thirteen year old nephew that had ran out to meet them. The nephews name was Mallard Haire. There was a plaque stating who had erected the gravesite. They were descendants of Mallard Haire. One of the names was a C. E. Riddle. The brothers that were killed were named Shelton. ---- After a bit of clarification he sent this: This happened in and around 1863 in an area on the Appalachian Trail known as Big Bald, Tennessee. Mallard Haire was caught in the crossfire when he ran out to meet them. There was a plaque by the gravestones that said something like: These gravestones were erected by the descendants of Mallard Haire. And one of the names on it was C.E. Riddle I am still unsure about where C. E. fits in... I do not know if he is referring to him being listed on the plaque or on one of the gravestones. I have this information on a James G. Riddle and Lucy Smith who had a son that I only have down with initials as C. E. Riddle born 1845 with no death date. James G married a J. W. Rogers in 1860 and they had 6 kids with birth dates starting in 1862 and ending 1870. Anyway, this C. E. is my 2nd cousin 3 times removed. With common ancestors being Capt. William RIDDLE and Harriet ROGERS/ROBERTS. Anyone?
