I have been reading the emails between Marilyn and Charlie about their Riddle families and although it doesn't appear we are in the same branch of Riddles, I did find it interesting about their Cherokee heritage. We were always told we had Indian blood also from my Riddle side. I asked a genealogist to look into that for me when she was doing research for me and she said it was very hard to find proof of that. If a person was Indian they would be listed as "B" for black so you wouldn't know if they were Indian or not. That is of course if they were not registered in an Indian Roll. I have no proof, just what has been handed down through the family. I have been searching for about nine years. Three genealogists at different times, made many phone call, written many letters and spent many hours on the computer and am still right where I started as far as ancestors go. My ggrandfather was James Robert Riddle b. 1840, he had a brother, John Flemming Riddle b. 1835. They appear to have been born in Virginia, maybe Henrico Co. I believe their father's name was William. Both brothers married and lived in Sussex Co.,Va. I believe they mostly did sawmill work. James married Alma Jeannett Sheffield who was born in Sussex Co... Here's hoping that one day I will find a connection to my family. Charlotte Armstrong
