This was in the Greenville (SC) News Ruth Bee Riddle, Laurens LAURENS — Ruth Bee Riddle, a teacher whose career spanned 44, years and who was recognized for her service as head of the English Department at Laurens High School, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center. She was 101 and was the last member of her immediate family. Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Adolphus and Emma Owens Riddle. A resident of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, she was a graduate of Laurens High School and Coker College. She had graduate study at the University of North Carolina, the University of South Carolina and Wofford College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society that recognizes outstanding women educators. She had served as president of Laurens County Education Association, had served as a member of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Education Association, and had served as President of the Teachers of English in the state association. She was a member of Laurens First Baptist Church. She is survived by two nieces, Ann Curran Bridges of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mary Dial Bridges Lewis of Rutledge, Tenn.; and their families. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 28, 2003, at Laurens City Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Bev. T. Kennedy Jr. and Dr. Russell Dean. The family will be at their respective homes.
