Welcome New Members!!! It is great to know we have some new additions to our RIDDLE family list. I am Judith RIDDLE Parker, live in Birmingham, Alabama. Just a few tips to some of you not familiar with posting, maybe I can help a bit by giving you a few pointers that it took myself a while to learn. When posting your queries, for those of us unfamiliar with your lines, and to aid any of us that might have something to help you out, note the following guidelines. This will apply to us old timer's too, as we forget we are aquiring new members to the list and they may not be familiar with our line as well. SUBJECT LINE: Please put the name of your RIDDLE in the subject line of your e-mail and perhaps abbreviations for their locations, such as NC, or VA, or Canada, and an approximate year, such as b abt so and so (born about so and so). This will help us to know more as soon as we open the e-mail. DATES: This is so important. If you know the dates that the person was born, married, died, etc, please post them. If you do not have an accurate date, a born about so and so will do, perhaps taken from an age given on a census record, and married circa so and so, died before or about so and so. LOCATIONS: This is also very important. Where born, where married, where died. This includes state, county, and city or township, if known. SPOUSES: The spouse of the RIDDLE ancestor is also important even if only a first name or a nickname is the only thing known. No telling who might also know this person as well or recognize the name, as it just might be in their records or familiar to them. ANCESTORS: If you know the name of the parents (even the parents of the non-RIDDLE) that is also helpful, remembering to add all of the infomation available. All of the ancestors names that are known will be helpful, as in grandparents, great-grandparents, and if you are fortunate to go even further back, those too. SIBLINGS: Brothers and sisters names are also helpful, if known, also who they married and any pertinent information, there is much to be said for the who, where, and when. If is unknown, put that in too, as unknown, just like using born about so and so, or died before so and so (perhaps were not found in the later census records or they married again, found later with a new spouse and children listed on the prior census). Someone just may descend from one of your particular ancestor's brother and sister, and they may be able to help you to fill in some blanks. I have a large genealogical library. I also have some books on land and military warrants in Alabama. I could perhaps be more helpful to folks if I had detailed information to go on. We are all here doing a most beloved hobby and helping one another is the key to success. I have had many to help me through the years and continue to return the favor. Genealogy is the only hobby I know where a step backward is considered progress. Thanks, and happy searching to one and all!! Judi Parker
