Also, where did you find > > proof that his middle name was Thomas? Hi Carol and Riddle's It's been several moons since I have posted here. I began researching my distant grandma Happy Riddle Fisher in the 1980's with the help of my mothers vast memory of her Arrington, England and Fisher families. Mom lived with her grandparents during her teenage years. Happy Fisher was living with mom's Great grandparents Samuel and Mary England Arrington in 1860, she applied for a Revolutionary War Pension in 1863. I wrote my first Riddle family genealogy in the 1994 Families Of Hawkins County, TN. and that included Moses as the father of William Riddle. The circumstantial evidence that led to my conclusion was undeniably sound, but I will start from the beginning. My mom's GG grandma Catherine Fisher England was know in that community as an Indian and they were well known because they owned a Grist Mill. The Fishers had no Indian tradition and they seemed to be solely German, so I assumed the Indian came from Happy Riddle. I was given some information by Rodney Vitscheggar which was two Court record in Montgomery County, One was the Inventory of William Riddles estate and the other was a Cow that was taken from Hoppy Riddle was ordered returned, and the 1767 Tax list Moses and Indian and William on the same list. So I went to Montgomery County several times, but the most convincing overwhelming evidence at this time was John Riddle. He filed a Revolutionary War Pension Application in 1834 stating that he was born in 1750 on the Flatt River, the only Riddle know to be in that area was Moses as he is on the 1750 tax list of Granville County, this area became Orange County in 1753 and Moses and his wife Mary were on the 1755 tax list with the notation (mulatto). Since John was listed once (1820) as a mulatto this combined with the other records removes all doubt that John was the son of Moses and William Riddle association with John Riddle shows a relationship. Lets examine John Riddle's pensio! n, he stated he first entered the service while living in Grayson County, VA, Grayson was not formed until later, but John told us the area of Botetourt/Montgomery County he lived in. The 1780 militia of Montgomery County included William Riddle and John Riddle, 1773 William Riddle and John Riddle were on John Montgomery tax dist. of Montgomery County, Va.- In 1777 both John and William Riddle were on the same list of people who signed the Oath of Allegiance.in Montgomery County. Moses was sometimes called Ridley on NC records and John wrote in his Pension Riddle, alias Ridley, William is also called Ridley on a court record with Micajer Bunch in Montgomery County. John Riddle probably escaped from Riddle knob when Cleveland captured William Riddle in the Spring of 1781, John stated in his pension that he returned to Henry County and joined the Revolution in August 1781. John is also on the 1785 tax list with Moses in Henry County, VA. John moved to the border of Stokes/Rock! ingham County NC and on a tax list there in 1797-8 was a Henry Fisher, he was not there in 1799 , but was back in 1780-81, was he the Henry Fisher who married Happy Riddle in Russell County , Va in 1799. Henry only appears on the 1799 tax list of Russell County, Did John Riddle tell Henry Fisher about Happy Jr.?, but that discovery came after my first story, at their time I did not know about G.T.Ridlons book. John Riddle wrote in the margin of his copy of Ridlons book about the son Moses and this was why Mary Hill suggested the son hung with William was Moses. Jack

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack Goins <jgoins@usit.net> * In yesterday's post I gave a wrong date of Henry Fisher in Stokes County, see correction. John is also on the 1785 tax list with Moses in Henry County, VA. John Riddle moved to the border of Stokes/Rockingham County NC and on a tax list there in 1797-8 was a Henry Fisher, he was not there in 1799 , but was back in *1780-81,*Correct date was 1800-1801. Was he the Henry Fisher who married Happy Riddle in Russell County , Va in 1799? Henry only appears on the 1799 tax list of Russell County, Did John Riddle tell Henry Fisher about Happy Jr.?, but that discovery came after my first story, at their time I did not know about G.T.Ridlons book. John Riddle wrote in the margin of his copy of Ridlons book about the son Moses and this was why Mary Hill suggested the son hung with William was Moses.
