    1. [RIDDLE] William Riddle 1803(8?)-1840
    2. Hi Folks, I have a William Riddle, born March 1803 (1808?); died September 1840 in Monroe Co, IN. His birthdate is according to historical society reading of very old tombstone. I've not located baptism records or anything else that would verify this date. His children indicate in their census records that he was born in KY or VA. William Riddle married 1830 in Monroe Co, IN to Polly Mirah Parks, born 1808 in NC, daughter of William Parks & Jemima Branch. William had 4 known children: William Thompson Riddle, b 1831 Priscilla Caroline Riddle, b 1835 George Marion Riddle, b 1837 Harrison H Riddle, b 1839. Prior to his marriage in 1830, I have no idea where he lived or if he was or if he had been married before. Can anyone fit this William Riddle in their family tree? Does anyone have a William Riddle that disappeared from their family before or around 1830? Curiously too there is a George Washington Riddle 1807-1892, born KY, also in Monroe Co, IN about the same time. I've not been able to prove they are related but suspect so. I've not been able to find the parents of this George Washington Riddle either. Any clues here would be appreciated too. Thanks for any help. Cathy Riddle O'Connor kayomaxb@aol.com

    3. Cathy (and others interested), Cathy stated: >I have a William Riddle, born March 1803 (1808?); died September 1840 in >Monroe Co, IN. . . . . . Can anyone fit this William Riddle in their >family tree? Does anyone have a William Riddle that disappeared from >their family before or around 1830? After I give this info, gathered from various sources, I'd like to hear from anyone who can verify, correct or fill in the blanks on any of the following. I'm starting with John Reddell or Riddle, b (clear back) abt 1742, probably in Maryland, and his wife Eleanor Daughtery, b 20 Dec 1742 in Maryland , , , , , , , I have the following four children listed for them: Mary, b. 1762; John D, b. abt 1772 ; Robert (Sr), b. 1773; and Sarah Sally, b. abt 1778. I believe there were probably others. John D. married Mary ?, abt 1792, and they are suppose to have had 19 children. I only have 18 listed. The following are alleged to be their children. My sources didn't provide any proof. There aren't any 'approximate' birth years, and I don't know if the order of children is correct. 1 - William Henry, 2 - Thomas, 3 - Charlotte, 4 - John G, 5 - David, 6 - Elizabeth, 7 - Mary Eleanor, 8 - Delilah, 9 - Nancy Malinda, 10 - Sarah M., 11 - Hugh Cook, 12 - Permelia Nancy, 13 - Vincent Robert, 14 - Aquilla, 15 - Priscilla Perrila, 16 - Richard, 17 - Melina, and 18 -George. William Henry Riddle fits into the right time frame and could be the William b. in 1803. Cathy said: >Curiously too there is a George Washington Riddle 1807-1892, born KY, also in >Monroe Co, IN about the same time. I've not been able to prove they are >related but suspect so. I've not been able to find the parents of this >George Washington Riddle either. The family of John D and Mary, above, also have a George. No further data is provided for either. Sarah Sally Riddle, b abt 1778, dau of John and Eleanor Riddle, and sister to John D above, is believed to be Sally, wife of Aquilla Riddle, b NC, then of Estill Co KY. Sally and Aquilla had a son William, b 1804 in NC, and 'may have' died in Richland Co Ohio. I don't have any further record of him. Aquilla and wife Sally Riddle Riddle also had a son, Adam Sr. Adam and his wife, also named Sally Riddle Riddle had a son Robert L who married Catherine Henry. Robert L and Catherine had several children, of whom, were George R., b 1862, Indiana, Adam, b. 1864, Indiana, and Charles Charlie, b. 1867, Ohio. I don't know where in Indiana they were born, but they were all back in Estill Co KY in time to be married. Those of Sally and Aquilla's children who may have died in Ohio or Richland Co (near Mansfield in N. Central) Ohio, are James, William, Michael, and Joseph. Ohio and Indiana are close neighbors :o) Adam Sr. and Sally Riddle's two oldest children were Mary Jane b abt 1823, and Harrison, b abt 1824. Mary Jane married Jesse Thompson in 1842, Pulaski Co Ky. Harrison married Elizabeth Thompson in 1846, also in Pulaski Co. Adam and Sally are found, 1st in Estill Co, then Jackson, and then Pulaski Cos. Ky. And Adam moved about after Sally died. The names of William and Polly M. Parks Riddle's children, fit into the Sally and Aquilla Riddle family. From Cathy: >William Thompson Riddle, b 1831 >Priscilla Caroline Riddle, b 1835 >George Marion Riddle, b 1837 >Harrison H Riddle, b 1839. Some of this information was received indirectly from Feda (or Freda) Askew Reddell of Lubbock, TX, and Sue Riddell Ellis, of Zionsville, IN. Some of the info was gleaned from a book by George F Bennett and Donald Bennett - The Asbill Family History., as well as from other sources. Cathy, it may or may not be much to go one, but it's what I have at the moment. These bits and pieces may be your 'clues'. If you need clarification, please ask. Hope to hear some new input from others, too. Best Regards, Wanda
