I just checked the U.S. Geological Survey site ( http://www.usgs.gov/ ) for Madison County in Illinois & Indiana. I got a match for Alton; Madison; Illinois. No match for Alton in Madison Co.; Indiana. There is however an Alton in Crawford Co.; IN. Hope this info helps.
