I am still trying to locate information on a James Riddle and his wife, Eliza A. Riddle. According to the 1850 census records for Hawkins Co., TN, James would have been born in 1812 and Eliza in 1817. Both of them are shown as having been born in North Carolina. This same census lists three children; Jane, age 4, born in VA; Ann (my great-grandmother), age 2, born in VA; and James, age 7 months, born in TN. The 1840 census records for Wilkes County, North Carolina, lists a family headed by a James Riddle which contains "Free White Persons" as follows: one male aged 20-30; one female aged 20-30; and two children, one male and one female, both less than 5 years old. Also in the 1840 NC census in Moore County, there is another family listed as being headed by a James Riddle which included the following: one male aged 20-30; one male aged 15-20; one male aged 5-10; and one female aged 30-40. Since my James Riddle would have been 28 in 1840, either of these families might be the one that I am looking for. Does anyone have any information on either of these two NC families that, if nothing else, will allow me to eliminate them from my searching? Some brick walls are awfully tough to get past! Thanks, Warren Ridley Morristown, TN
