Seeking the parents and info for my gg/gf George W. Riddle b. Dec 13, 1818, d. Sep 29, 1890, Union District, Kanawha Co., WV (now Nitro, WV). George married Louisa Jane THACKER. His father is shown as born "Whales" in the 1880 census and mother born WV. Any help is appreciated. Butch Willard
Hi Bill: As you have probably already read my most recent post, your Joseph's middle name more than likely remain a mystery, just as my James R. Riddle's middle name. Unfortunately, all the sources I checked do not show a middle initial or name. All sources did state he was born April 1777, not April 1775, but no place of birth. Carolyn, Could you post the middle name of Joseph L. Riddle to the list if you can find it? I am also one of his descendants and have been looking for his middle name for a long time. I imagine there are quite a few others in the same situation. Bill Riddle

Okay, next step on this quest. Let's say that Uriah in the 1880 Marshall Co. Census and my URIAS from the 1860 census are the same (I think they are). 1. Urias/Uriah are born the same year in Alabama 1827 or 1828 2. They both have a wife named Mary also the same age 3. They both have a daughter Susan - slight age difference but we all know that there's a + - 5 year play in ages How do we know that Samuel and Julia Ann are the parents of Uriah? Help, I am so in need of names. I just got my gggrandmother's death certificate today and got no new info. She is just listed as Minda Conley. No parents were listed so I still don't know who they were. My gggrandmother's name was Nancy(?) Arminda Riddle and was born in 1856 in Arkansas and married Jesse Conley. They were living in Carroll Co., Prarie township, Arkansas in 1880 according to the census. She lists her mother as born in AR and father is blank. She also had 2 Riddle boys living with her. They are Columbus age 21 and James age 18. I assume they are her brothers because they list their mom as born in AR and their father is blank also. Jess and Nancy were living in Indian Territory, Vian, (OK) in 1900 and in Verdigris, Rogers Co., OK in 1910. In 1880 and in 1900 she listed her name as Nancy but in 1910 she is listed as Minda and this is the name on her tombstone. I know this is the same woman because of the family history. If anyone knows anything about this family, I would love to find out as this is really frustrating. I will be happy to share what I have with others and hope to hear from someone who can shed some light on this brick wall. Thanks and have a great New Year, Debbie Bryan
I'm still searching for info on Urias Riddle. Here's what I know for a fact - URIAS Riddle was born circa 1827/28 in Alabama (1860 Marshall Co., AL Census) he married Mary Wright 8-1-1853 in Marshall Co.; Alabama Mary was born circa 1835 in Alabama (1860 Marshall Co., AL Census) They had the following children in 1860 (1860 Marshall Co., AL Census)Wesley age 6, Mary age 3, and Susan A. age 11/12 (less than a year old) according to this census, these children were all born in Alabama. I need to know the following: 1. Who were the parents of Urias Riddle 2. Is Uriah, son of Samuel Riddle and Julia Ann, the same as Urias 3. When and where did Urias Riddle die Any help that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.
I want to take this moment to wish all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year. May all of us finally find our Riddle ancestors. Take care and God Bless. This is hoping all of you had a great Christmas and will enjoy a great New Year. My wife and I spent Christmas with part of our family in Harpers Ferry, WVA. The snow was so beautiful. The rocky-gorges around the river at Charlestown are so beautiful. You can't image how rocky that river is. The roads became pretty slick and a precher ran off the road. Behind him him was a drunk driving a log truck. The drunk pulled his truck over and ran down to help. The drunk asked "Are you OK?" The preacher replied, "OhYes--I had the Lord with me!" The drunk replied, Well--you had better let Him ride with me before you get him hurt!" Happy New Year! Hi Marie, I don't have a location, but Emporia might be a good guess. And, you're right, given that it was 1922, there might be something in the old papers.
