    3. John Riddle and Sarah (Sary) Johnson were married in Hawkins Cty, Tn @ 1800. John is my ggg grandfather and is the son of William and Harriet Riddle that moved to Missouri. The Green family of Hawkins County, Tn., is part of my husband's family. I have quite a bit of information on the Green/Seal family. The book I have (3 volumes) was written by Alton Green. (We don't have a kitchen--my in-laws have turned it into an "all-night diner") I went to church this morning and the ushers were casting out devils. When I walked in--four of those big ushers picked me up and threw me out in the parking lot. Count your blessings! Charlie Riddle/Dulles Airport --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 2. How many Riddle descendants are in the San Antonio area? Ya'll know where Poteet is. Anyway when we moved to south Texas, we thought we were coming to a warm climate. OK, so it hits 115 degrees down here in the summer, but it's not summer now! This last week I've had to break up the ice so the animals could drink. Remember the 12 inches of snow in 1985? And one year the thermometer read 5 degrees on our front porch! My former ideas about balmy winters in south Texas flew out the window years ago. Like they say, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait a minute, it will change." In my first e-mail to the Riddle mailing list, I forgot to mention that the Riddles I'm looking for in Talladega AL owned or worked at the Mariah Forge there, and that 4 of them are buried there. So I'm very interested in Mariah Forge. Does anybody know anything about it? Gretchen Williams

    2. Russ... While I have some copied pages of Plum's book, I don't remember where I received them and I'm not sure where to get an actual copy of the book. We will probably never know for sure about William (the Tory) Riddle's origins. What was the website for Elam? Yes, I believe he was a surveyor by trade (and I remember hearing that he surveyed quite a bit of Mount Pleasant, Texas, a town he helped to found). I have extensively researched Matilda Simpson's side of the family. I have it back to the 1500s and with a theory of mine about Matthew Rodham's parentage, which I have yet to present to a qualified genealogist, I can expand it quite a bit further. A lot of what is on the family history site as well as in the Family History Center (which I have spent countless hours at in Mesa, Arizona) is unverified. A giant leap without proof was made about Matthew Rodham's parents being Edmund Roddam and Margaret Grey (Matthew Rodham was Matilda Simpson's 5-Great Grandfather). It was just assumed that since there was a Roddam family in England that this must be where Matthew Rodham came from. With years of working on proof of this personal brick wall, I am near presenting my findings. The Images of the Past photo is wrong and I have spoken to someone at the Mount Pleasant Library/Historical Center about it. As an aside, Elam Riddle was the 6th Postmaster of Mount Pleasant, Texas, appointed December 9, 1852. Connie... My father, and everyone else on this side of my family, is from Mount Pleasant and the family dates back to the town's founding (and with the Cochran side, even before that). All... It is a balmy 52 in Kings Worthy, Winchester, England (70 miles southwest of London). Charles Smith

    2. Hello, I think I have finally figured out how to post. I'm searching for the children of Samuel Riddle, b 1771 in York Co., PA and d 1823 in Chambersburg, PA, and Marion Stuart, b 1780 In MD, and d 1847 in Talladega, AL. So far I know about 3 of their 11 children: 1.Samuel S. Riddle, d 1851 in AL. 2. Joseph P. or James P. Riddle, (2 different sources disagree on first name), d 1836 in Goliad, TX in Texas Revolution. 3. Walter Dulaney Riddle b abt. 1813 in Bedford, PA, and d 1852 in Talladega, AL. I believe that my gggrandfather,John Corbett Riddle, b 1816 in PA , and d 1885 in Pilot Point, TX, was also one of their children, but so far have not been able to prove it. I have found him in Shelby Co., AL, working with W.D. Riddle, in Chambers Co., AL. married to Jane Joyce Thomas, and in Montgomery Co., AL buying land. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Gretchen Williams
