    3. Stan, I'm new on this search and understand your frustration. Don't know correct terminology but I have found what little information I have on my great grandfather by doing what I call "coming in the back door". I have searched lots of GenForums on any surname that I have found connected with Thomas William Riddles downline. I'm also new enough that when I finally started getting copies of marriage lic., death cert. and so on....I was surprized at how much information can be gathered and how many new points of seach I opened. I have not gained much information from the Riddle site as yet but I just know that one day that link will appear and we're all going to be related. Meanwhile, I'm just the bee in the bonnet that flits in and drops names and watches and hopes. Yes, I think we probably had secrets....My great- grandfather would disappear for a couple of weeks to go visit family. Don't know what family. Some say in KY and some say TN. My great grandmother was Margaret E.C.E. Lynn b: 1863 d: 1926 Albertville, Marshall Co., AL. d/o John Lynn b: AL & Elizabeth Chambers b: AL John Lynn s/o Edley Osborn Lynn b: KY & Holmes. Someone sent a lot of information on the Lynn line. Will post it as soon as I have time. Meanwhile, don't give up ... Wish I had an unusual first name to search for but here I'm stuck with Thomas William Riddle, John William Riddle and my Dad's name is William!!!!! ARGGGHHH!!! Just remember, beats playing Zelda! ha Happy hunting, Linda Riddle-Lane

    3. Found the following Riddles in the Find a Grave site. Not any of mine that I know of but are they on your list. Found this site interesting has not helped me but might help some of you. 3. Stan, I usually don't comment on this type of thing but I like several others on the list. Think you have not put in enough time on your own research. All of us at one time or the other have come up with brick walls on our Families research. Why just a few days ago I found that I had been seeing some of the family I had been searching for for quite some time my only problem was one major link between mine and theirs was missing and if I had not found that I would not have made the connection I wanted so much. Do not depend on the list. Go to the different counties and states on the genweb and put in queries on all of them as to the people you are looking for - I realize that takes a lots of time and effort on your part but some times it does pay of. You might also join some of the state or area list. I belong to the South Central Kentucky list and am always seeing Riddle's in the different spellings come in but no one is ever asking any question about them on that list and have often wondered why. Sandi Gorin puts a lots of her research on Ky on that list and also goes futher than I think she should be ask to to help everyone. So lets get our feelings off our shirt sleeve and act like a grown up and go to work on your own line and let the others do their own work. I just happen to be one of the lucky ones on this list and get quite a bit of information on my husbands side of the family. Now some of my other lines and their list have not helped me at all. You might even try asking Mary nicely for the information she has offered you (it might even Help) and then I think everyone on the list deserves an apology for you. Well I feel better now that I have put my two cents in also. I would also like to send my apologly to the rest of the list - I might should have sent this to him personally instead of the list. Lets all quit this and get back to the main object of being here - to search for our ancestors. Thank you, Josephine Hall

    1. [RIDDLE-L] family tree
    2. To all my unknown cousins: I have just recently started my search and as so many others have said, I have not received help yet from this group, but I am not giving up. I have been to the FHC in San Bernardino, CA and they are helping me with my research. Here is my contribution to the keeper of the unknown Riddles: My ggrandfather was Newton Riddle b. 1842 in Cooper Co. MO. He died in 1918 in LA Co. CA. His 1st wife was Mildred Turley born in 1844 and died in 1879. He married Martha O'Howell in 1847. There was a son born to Newton and one of his wives but I have not been able to find out which one. His name was Jesse Riddle. My grandfather, Joseph William Riddle was born Jun.20,1881 in Arrow Rock in Cooper Co. MO. his mother was Martha O'Howell. He died Feb. 1961 in Pomona, LA Co. CA. He married Bessie Staten Aug.7,1907 in Pomona, CA. I have come across two names in the 1860 census from Cooper Co. MO that may be Newton Riddles mother and father, but have not been able to prove this so far. They are John W. Riddle born in 1825 in KY (a pill agent) and Susan Riddle born in 1829 in KY. If anyone has any information regarding these Riddles I would greatly appreciate your help. Good luck and happy hunting Shirley Riddle Hayworth

    3. Stan, Cathy has graciously volunteered to take all our "orphaned" Riddle families and keep track of them....why not post what you have to be added to that growing number. There is no clique on this list...some folks just have more information than others on their line. (Unfortunately, I am not one of them either). I, too, know how very frustrating it can be not to get a response....however, I post my info every once in awhile just in case someone new will have what I need to fill in the gaps. Mary Hill has been very helpful to the list.....she can only give information that she has. She has given lots of time and effort on the behalf of other researchers. I don't normally respond to this type of message but I've been here for quite awhile just lurking in the background and have seen lots of people make those much-needed connections with the help of Mary and others like her. Let's please not turn this into an arguement....none of us will benefit from it. Thanks! 3. Hi Stan, I am personally disappoined in your response. I share what I find - not preferences. I happen to be mostly after the descendants of William Riddle (tory). I spent several hours in the Family History Library, as well as at least an hour of my time on my trip trying to find Samuel T. Riddle information. I already told you I found a writeup on him from McMinn Co., TN and offered to send it to you. No response. I photocopied deeds I found when I searched McMinn Co. several weeks ago, and offered to send them to you. No response. Another member of this list sent me postage money for the same info. which I am putting in the mail today. Stop complaining. We are all busy. I try to help as I can, but I think all the others on the list have recognized: 1) I can only do so much for others. I do work at the FHL, but I have a 40 hour work week, a commute, 8 children, 19 grandchildren, a garden, speaking engagements, syllabus material to write - I am extremely busy. 2) Genealogy is of such a nature that some research problems take years and hundreds of hours to resolve. That is YOUR responsibility, not anyone elses. 3) Mostly I research my own lines. If I give you some research effort, which is a gift, Stan, then please take it graciously. If I am too busy, then go do the research yourself. That is the name of the game. This list has virtually NEVER had flamers. I have loved the Riddle List for that reason. 2. Stan: I would like for you to know that I am not a member of a clique. I have been on this list for about a year now and all the people have been nice to me. We have our little arguments over details at times but it all pans out. You are impatient. I worked on my search for a long time before things came together. We all work and it takes forever to do some of the research that MARY HILL does for ALL OF US. We can't be a clique because most of us don't even know each other personally or at least I don't even though we are all related somehow. Mary is great so don't trash her and don't get an attitude. If you don't like the site, then possibly it's not for you, but wish you would give it another try. That is if anyone if anyone will help you after you have offened them all, even me. Sincerely, Lynn Stephenson

I don't have any idea what family they belong to. Hope is helpful to someone. Cathy Riddle O'Connor >From the Bloomington Courier (semi-weekly) Wednesday, 10 Jan 1906 H H Riddle, the well-know Indianapolis Southern Railroad contractor, arrived in Bloomington last evening with his bride. He was married in Cleburn, Texas to Miss Ura Ross, a charming young lady. Mr. and Mrs. Riddle will have their home temporarily at the Hotel Bowles. 1. [RIDDLE-L] I was Serious
    2. Stan: My post to you was not meant sarcastically at all.... As a matter of fact, I was very serious as I agree with you.... The existing database on North Carolina Riddles has helped a lot. Perhaps with your computer knowledge you are a good candidate to be the central depository for all the information and you can make it go round and round and come out in order. I am sure this would be very helpful to many here but I also am aware it would involve a lot of data..... You might need a 1,000 gig harddrive for it all..... At least we are talking about something to raise the level of access so that is a positive step in the right direction.... Cheers, William Riddle, Tucson, AZ
