Hi, The reason the Dwelling No. is different from the Family No. is that census takers were told to count the actual dwellings, and make a separate list of the families he found. There were often two families in one house, so the number gets off. Your record means that there were 179 families living in in 167 actual buildings. Robin, Please send me the information you have and I'll look at it at the FHL on Saturday. I'm off tomorrow, but have to work Saturday so I could look then. Hi Robin, The 1890 Census burned and does not exist, but the 1870 and 1880 Censuses are available - for all members of the household. The 1870 is indexed in book format. The 1880 is Soundexed - which is an indexing system. You would need to go to a University library, or an LDS Family History Center near you to use them I suppose. Where do you live? Stan.....we are Family ( just not all connected .........yet) Most of us "old listers" have come to treasure and respect what Mary has to offer in our quest for missing Riddles in our Tree's. But there are many others who offer help or suggestions that may or may not help someone, that is the nature of this beast you can never know when a bit of info might just come back to be of interest to your line. Everyone on this list is willing to share but there are some dead-ends that haven't been unblocked yet. Hopefully with all the new members on the list new information may surface...... a new family bible or some record that has been missed that helps someone. Maybe something for you one of these days. I have learned that genealogy research is WORK and the best rewards are something you find on your on whether it is searching the census or birth and death records, land grants, will's, etc. So, Stan offer what you have from time to time and see what happens. But continue your own research. Just don't ever "Bash" Mary. Mary is not of my line but from time to time if I give her a reference she will do a look-up for me at FHC and she shares with us all. Cathy (keeper of the names) and all, Earlier I posted my great-grandparents, John G. (possibly Grenade) Riddle and wife, Milissa Ann Stone. Here are their children: 1. John Henry G. "Nade" Riddle, b. Oct 28, 1877 in Comanche Co., Texas; d. Mar 1957 in Quemado, Maverick Co., Texas. Married Nancy Jane Huggins abt 1895/96 in Coalgate, Coal Co. Indian Territory. (this is my line) 2. Addie Mae Riddle, b. 1880; died young. 3. James Louis Riddle, b. June 1883; died young 4. Effie Fredinia Riddle, b. Oct 1885; married George Woods. 5. Sarah Elizabeth Riddle, b. Dec 1887; married Clarence Gray Huggins, brother to Nancy Jane Huggins (above) in Quitaque, Briscoe Co., Texas. They both died in Quemado, Maverick Co., Texas. 6. Lola Florence Riddle, b. Sep 1890; married William Herman Cryer. lived in Elida, New Mexico. 7. Texie Myrtle Riddle, b. Jan 1893; married Bud Ward. 8. Willy Wade Riddle, b. Oct 23, 1895 9. Mattie Miranda Riddle, b. They were back in Texas in Quitaque, Briscoe Co. by 1910 and still there in 1920....at least some of them were there. Thanks! Doris Moore djmoore@nb.net 8.

Dear Fellow listers, I joined the Iron County Historical Society this last April. I just received a letter from them with some information that maybe someone else might also be able to use; "In Goodspeeds History of Southeast Missouri, 1888 on p.1042 there is information that I found on the Alvis Riddle that your cousin passed on to you. Rebecca J. Riddle m. in 1840 in Hardin Co. TN John McMullen - they moved to Stoddard Co. MO in 19841 - she died in 1864. I think (could be wrong) that Rebecca (bc1822) is the sister of Alvis Riddle. What do you think? Also, on p. 907, ibid, George T. Price b1846, moved to New Madrid Co., MO in 1866 and married 21 Nov 1866 Mary Emma Riddle. She d. 1879. Alvis' dau. Mary E. was 16 on the 1860 census, making her the right age for this marriage. On p.1180 it stated that on 20 Aug. 1876 Miss Mary R. Riddle, d/o John Riddle who is living in Union twp, Dunklin Co. MO married William W. White. Don't know where this family fits in, if at all. But, evidently the southeast section of Missouri certainly had its share of Riddles!" Now, this does not yet fit my Riddles! But I am sure, that it will fit Mike Conner's Riddles. I cannot get a hold of this man, as none of the return addresses are working for him. I don't know if it's his ISP, or what. But I have been unable to contact him so I hope he sees this. I would dearly love to show that this Alvis Riddle is a kin to our John Riddle. The Mary Emma Riddle is not my Mary E. Riddle, as she would have only been 5 years old when she got married. I do not know this Mary R. Riddle. Our John Riddle lived in Des Arc, Missouri, Iron County, Union Township. However, he lived there 1860-1880. Beyond that, I have no idea exactly when he moved there or when he died. I will write a letter this evening to the Iron County Historical Society. But if someone else would like their address, here it is; Iron County Historical Society 123 W. Wayne St. Ironton, MO 63650-1327 They have a wonderful genealogical room at their library, and I would dearly love to spend a couple of years perusing!!! Happy Rootin! I found this list of Riddlell families in my files as I am attempting to go through and throw out. I have a bunch of them so here goes on these 2 pages. These may help someone. John Riddell -probably born in Ballaymeath Ireland abt 1641. Died Jan 3 1737 probabbly in Ballaymeath, Lononderry, Ireland Married June 4 1670 in Ballaymeath, Londonerry, Ireland Mother is Hugh Riddell Mother was Mary WIlson He married Janet Gordon- born about 1645 also of Ballaymeath Londerry, Ireland. They show she died in 1990 but that could not be possible if she was born in 1670. Their children: John Riddell Died 1687 and this seems rather strange also but it may be true. Gavin Riddell- Mary Riddell- Hugh RIddell Born 16 91 in Ballaymeath Londonerry Ireland Died- 1775 in Coleraine, Franklin County, Massachusetts Marrried Ann Aiken 1739 in Coleraine, Franklin Col Mass. James Riddell- married Elizabeth Douglass Nov. 13, 1726 She was also born in Ballaymeath, Londonerry Ireland Robert Riddell married Mary Thompson - Abt 1752 in Coleraine Franklin County Mass. John (Gawn) Riddell Died Dec 29 1779 in Bedford, Middlesex, Mass Janet Riddell married a Thomas Hamilton April 6, 1721 in Ballaymeath Londerry, Ireland Margery Riddell Married John Clark on May 20, 1722 in Ballaymeath Londerry Ireland. Samuel Riddell I do not have the particulars on him at all. It seems most of them were born in Ballaymeath Ireland so he probably was too. (Wish I knew more about this Samuel and when he died and where and who his wife was and when he came to America.)That is all I have on this family and I do not know who mailed it to me.
