    2. Hi, Mary I just returned from the FHC and found my ggggrandfather in the 1870 N.C. cenus. (Haywood County) It shows him being 49 yrs. old. Born in S.C. abt.1821. My gggrandfathers death certificate says his mother and father were born in N.C. Also are the people listed after him his family ? They left the last name off everyone but him. The person after him is Adtine 50 or 60 yrs.old keepinghouse, next Obe(d or t) 20yrs old farm labor, then Terry 18 yrs. old farm labor. I'm guessing the death certificate had the wrong state. for there birthplace. My gggrandfather was nowhere to be found in 1870 N.C. or S. C. he would have been 17 yrs. old. He doesn't show up again until 1900 cenus in Anderson county S.C. married with 6 children. I feel like I have hit a brick wall with Silas any suggestions were to look next. Thanks, Diane

"The Riddle Song" is the older song, Irish I think; the "Twelfth Of Never" simply uses the same tune, but more modern words. The lyrics in the original song all ask questions, hence the name "Riddle". Molly Dixon

    3. I found out yesterday: In 1934 the federal government transferred the historical records of Oklahoma's Indian tribes to the OHS. Native American Records collections contain 3.5 million documents representing 66 of the 67 native tribes that resided in Indian Territory. Osage records can be found at the SW Branch of the Nat'l Archives in Ft Worth. They also have the 112 volume, Indian-Pioneer History, a collection of oral histories done by the Federal Writers Project in 1937. This was not all but what a place to start. Happy Huntin' Cathie Dear Cathie, I do remember, somehow, finding out about rolls...I think there was something on the internet about finding out which rolls a certain surname would be on. I got a new computer, and have not straightened things out completely, yet. But I do know the supposed roll numbers. Thanks again, Laura Clark

    3. As a computer techie, I recommend either a ZIP Drive, Jazz Drive made by IOMEGA for backing up your hard drives. When you use a tape, the tapes can either stretch or break. Ever remember a cassette TAPE getting *eaten* in your recorder. What happens if your tape drive eats a tape? There goes your backup. Just my professional opinion. You can call him at 704-497-9709, or write him at P.O. Box 525, Cherokee, NC 28719. In Volume 2, WESTERN CHEROKEE ROLLS, I found the following Riddles listed on Dawes/Guion Miller Rolls-1898-1914: Dewey L, Edna L, Fannie J, Fannie M, Fred F, George William, Giles H, Grace T, Henry, Ida, Leona, Lillian R, Louisa E, Lula M, and Mabel F. If any of these are family names, you are in luck. I have been reading and listening to all your discussions. For the group: both my grandmothers were Riddles, and, yes, I am my own cousin. So I hug me quite often! Patricia Yeary Stallard Wise and Lee County, VA, Riddles >

    3. You will have to be the judge of that. I got mine from Higginson and I think just about everyone else did. A yard sale would be great if it served your purpose. I've noticed that other publishers as well offer the "Ancient Book of Reydales" would there be much of any difference in quality or format. Any advantages of purchasing the book from one company over the other? I know of another company I saw, Blair Books, which also has it, as well as does Higginson. Any advise or opinions here! 1. Re: [RIDDLE-L] Riddle, Reddell, Ruddle Trail
    2. Thanks Danny for the info from the above mentioned book. Now this adds to the problem of whether I want to get this book or not. The one document that I do have is the marriage certificate of James and Jennett Riddle, married in Madison, Halifax Co.,NC on Dec. 22, 1865. A difference in time and place from what the book says. Wouldn't it be nice if things came together nice and easy once in awhile? Now what do I do? I was planning on ordering the book tomorrow. Gotta give it more thought I guess. Charlotte A.

    3. Fran, I think you would be happy with a copy. There are many Benjamin's, Asa is there. I think I have seen this line in it but it is lots of info and it is scattered in different additions as new info came in it was updated so the newsletters were a continuing work in progress.
