    1. [RIDDLE-L] Northern Sympathizers List
    2. Russell D Merryman
    3. Hello List (Riddle Researchers)! I received a list numbering 76 Individuals who went to Fort. Smith ARK for protection during the Civil War. It is of American Indian (Choctaws and those married to them, or who were mixed blood, also white). Thought somebody might be interested! A professional genealogist gave this, to a relative of mine at one time. Some of the names I thought might be of some INTEREST to someone perhaps (?), they are: #26. F. M. Monks Became Capt. in Union Army in Missouri, Daughter owned at least one slave. People in family - Men (1), Women (1), Children (2), = Total (4). #37. Jessie Riddle People in family - Men (1), = Total (1). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Of the others listed a few appear to have made it to Fort Smith, there D.O.A. (or) died there. This is all the information for the two individuals that the list provided for these above. (Hope this may have helped someone)! The location ARK., came from "surmised" for the most part Okla. The Era: the Civil War (time frame). Subject: Northern Sympathizers/ 5 Civilized Tribes. If anyone knows/could tell me the Source of this LIST of Northern Sympathizers?? It would be greatly appreciated too, as well! (A descendant of Isaac & Anna Riddle, one of the twin boys of William Riddle), Always Best Regards, Russ Merryman

Their children - William T; Priscilla C; George M, and Harrison H Riddle. My line is from son, George M Riddle. Might your Anne Griffin be the 1st wife of my William Riddle? 2. Mike Conners
    3. This is Mike Conners and with all the Joseph news on the hotline I was wondering if maybe Joseph could be the father of Samuel Riddle born 1790? in Maryland or Riddell as I find his grandchildren listed as. My Richard L Riddle or Riddell as he was listed on the census reports was born June 1835 in either Scotts Co. or Florida Mo. Richard was married twice first to Martha C Easton and second to Sophie Bloodgood. Richard by his first marriage had 5 children my Martha C Easton and 3 by Sophie Bloodgood. Here is my point. He names his boys by Sophie: Samuel Joseph Edward James Could that be that Samuel be after his father and Joseph after the Samuels father or his grandfather???? He also names the only girl from that marriage Minnie L. Richard by his first marriage to Martha C Easton names his children: Mary (can't find anything on her) Victoria Louise (my gggrandmother) died in 1947 in Unionville Mo. buried in Unionville Mo. Henry Francis (Frank) found him in Hannibal and died in 1918 and is buried in Macomb. IL William John (was in Hannibal in 1918 because he was with the body of his brother when it was sent to Macomb.) Martha Virginia (no nothing about) Richard C (also no nothing about) All of these children except Edward James(Jimmy) used the last name spelling of Riddell. Can anyone make a connection. 1. [RIDDLE-L] Isaac & Joseph Contact List
    2. Charles Smith
    3. Robin, Unfortunately, I don't get that many responses to my Isaac & Joseph Contact List. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was reading it. I have noted your comments and the changes have been made. I would love to stir some debate (the whole reason for the list in the first place) and solve some of the question marks on the list. I did notice with a bit of glee that I was prominently mentioned in the Speer's deed. Can I still claim the land? Charles Smith PS. Not quite sure where John S. Riddle came from. I will delete him unless anyone has any objections.

    1. Re: [RIDDLE-L] Josephus RIDDLE
    2. Hi - just read this message and thought I would ask a question, even tho it sounds like you may have it figured out...but just for my records and understanding I found the following and wondered if it could be the same person....The Josephus that I found, his name was Joseph Cephus Riddle who was born 05-1840 in Cumberland Co., Ky. He was the son of Nathan A.R. and Mary Pierce. But the one I have married Tyressa J. Ashlock in 1863....Are we talking about the same one? He did have a brother William Peters (Billy) Riddle who was born ca 1835 in Cumberland Co. Ky., but I have 2 marriages for him.#1 is to Lucinda Bow who was born ca. 1834 in Ky. and #2 is to a Mary Riddle. (could this be Mariah?), or is this a totally different family? The dates are very, very close to the children of Nathan and Mary of Cumberland Co., Ky. I havent ran across a Davis Riddle yet, but that doesnt mean anything...just have lots and lots of Riddles and those were the two that I knew of....Who is the parents of this Davis Riddle, and was he also born in Cumberland Co., Ky.? Its just so odd that the same names and births are so alike...made me wonder who you were talking about....Thanks Loretta Riddle in Evansville, In. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RPoind4199@aol.com> To: <RIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 23, 1999 7:29 PM Subject: [RIDDLE-L] Josephus RIDDLE > Rodney, > I've been TRYING to sort through all the stray RIDDLE's in Clinton and > Cumberland Co., KY. I have ordered the census for 1850; but since it doesn't list birthplace of parents, I still won't be able to learn if they are in fact the brothers or the other 3 known Riddles.
