    2. Oh! I Remember you Jim Opperman. I remember your most kind offer almost a year ago. But I was real a newbie and kinda lost track of you for some reason. I finally tore down my brick wall thanks to my Texas cousin who found some info which her Ggmo had written down about her husbands place of birth. Which turned out to be Rono Indiana instead of Kokomo Indiana as we had been told. And my Ggfa didnt attend Oxford as we had been told. I still dont understand why my gfa told my uncle that story. But he did and its water under the bridge. When I get my act together Jim I would still like for you to ck a few thinks for me. Good to see you here on the Rootsweb Riddle list. Stan Brookshier, Sr.

    3. It wasn't Dorothy Marsh where I might have gotten the info on C.E. it was Kathryn Nuttall... she might be the lady from Texas but I seem to remember someone named Nettie (last name starts with a B). Anyway this is what I have copied and C. E. is listed as one of their sons. The James listed here is the fifth son of Isaac who was a son of William the Tory. Carol James G. Riddle Ancestors and Descendants, compiled by: Kathryn Nuttall June 1991 James G. Riddle, born 22 Jan 1813 in Boone Co. Kentucky. He married Lucy Smith who was born 14 Oct 1810. They married 27 Jan 1831. James G. Riddle, born 22 Jan 1813, married Lucy Smith on 27 Jan 1831. She was born 14 Oct 1810. Both were born in Kentucky and presumably married there. We know nothing of Lucy Smith's family. I have wondered if she and Nancy Smith were sisters. Nancy married Joseph Pierce Riddle. He died 25 Dec 1878 and is buried at Old Armour Cemetery, Coolidge, Texas. She died 24 Apr 1891 and is buried at Oak Island Cemetery, Cotton Gin, northwest of Teague, Texas. I have Xerox copies of pages from two Riddle family Bibles. Much of the information in this section comes from these pages. In later life when his first wife Lucy Smith refused to accompany him to California, James G. Riddle divorced her and married Mrs. McElroy. Little is known about her except that she was a relative of Jess McElroy. They are buried at Old Armour Cemetery near Coolidge, Limestone Co., TX. ----Original Message Follows---- From: [email protected] Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [RIDDLE-L] C. 3. Barbara: The Ridlon "Riddle Book" does not list a family group from Prince George's Co. MD, but it lists some RIDDELLS of Cecil Co. MD, and another group of that line just from Md, no city. At least one member of the "No City" RIDDELL's lived in Prince George's Co. in 1873, Elizabeth . The earliest of this line begins with Jacob RIDDELL, of Scottish ancestry, no city location given who came to MD about 1760, he married three times, no names given; All five of his children were born in MD. (No locations or dates) SECOND GENERATION: Jacob m Mary ANDERSON they had 12 children, he died at 40, she died at 50. John m Susan JOHNSON they had issue. (Is this your Susan Johnson?) Joseph, died many years ago. Elizabeth (see above). Eliza, deceased years ago. THIRD GENERATION: (All born in MD) James b 1 Apr 1820 m Ellen SANBORN of Ireland, 6 children, Carpenter, Lived in Wash. DC. Mary b 24 May 1822, deceased Sarah 29 May 1824 deceased. William b 26 Jun 1826, of Wash, DC. Emily b 2 Mar 1828, deceased. Susan b 6 Jan 1830, lives in Blagdensburgh. Jacob 3 Oct 1832, deceased. John b 13 Oct 1834, lives Wash. DC. Charles b 30 Apr 1836, lives in VA. FOURTH GENERATION: (All children of James) Mary b 1 Sep 1849. Christopher b 10 Feb 1851. James b 23 Mar 1853 d 15 Jul. George b 10 May 1854. Luiladda b 1 Dec 1856 d 7 May 1861. Austin b 8 Mar 1859 d 25 Apr 1863. The Cecil Co. group starts with Levi (Humphrey?) (Scotch/Irish) He was of aristocratic stock and disowned by his family for marrying a servant girl. Maybe connected to Glasslough, Scotland branch of RIDDELL's. SECOND GENERATION: He had a large family but only William, Thomas, Johm, Robert, Levi, Jackson are listed. (Through THIRD, FOURTH and FIFTH GENERATION:) These two branches may or may not be connected. I can provide scanned copies of what Ridlon has to say about both families? Best Regards Jim Opperman I hope this sheds some light on your relatives. you can e-mail me at [email protected] if you like. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2001 6:26 AM Subject: Re: [RIDDLE-L] RIDDLE BOOK > Jim--Thank you for your kind offer. 3. Dorothy Marsh I have heard a lot about in fact, I think the information that I have on C.E. Riddle originated from her. My Aunt Max and I never discussed the family research when she was alive. I was just an ignorant kid then and dream of time travel to correct only that one mistake. Unfortunately, because of my work schedule and size of my house I have had to attack the research boxes one at a time and I chose the smallest box that had all of her hand written group sheets for the Riddles. I am on the third group sheet and moving slowly than a turtle! I hope to find things from Dorothy Marsh in one of the boxes... I think I might have seen a pile of newsletters from her when I first started going through the things but left them be so I wouldn't confuse myself on what Aunt Max determined to be true. Was Dorothy the lady from Joplin? I'm sure that you will get plenty of requests and I'm going to jump in with the rest and hope that your book will have information regarding Elizabeth BROWN and William Baker RIDDLE. He was born in Stephenson County, Illinois. Elizabeth BROWN was born in Lakevill, Missouri but I don't find that anywhere on a map. I have no dates for them at this time but their son, Harry Pickett RIDDLE, was born in Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas on 12-Jul-1890. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed!! 3. Higginson Books have a copy of the G.T. Ridlon "Riddle Book" for $98.00, It was published in 1884, mostly on 1873 and earlier data. I have a copy of the original, and will look up information for those intereasted. It is indexed by maiden name of the person marrying a RIDDLE, RIDDELL or RIDLON, etc or surname of the male marrying a RIDDLE woman.
