Bill, Riddle, Nancy Katherine died 8/3/1923 in Howard County. Her death certificate number is 24477 in case you want to order it. Doris
Doris, This is great of you to offer to do lookups. I hope you haven't be deluged with requests and are still able to do them. Would you please see if you can find my wife's great great grandmother? Her name was Nancy Katherine Riddle. This was NOT her first marriage. She was a Dixton/Dixtron/Dickson who married an Andrew Milstead. After Andrew died, she married Dr. Isaac Rogers Riddle of Mt. Pleasant, Titus Co., TX. I think she was born in 1830 in TN and was supposed to have died somewhere in West Texas in the 1920s. I would appreciate your help. Thank you, Bill Atherton
Hi Margaret, I don't have the name you mentioned but will keep an eye out in case we can connect at a later date. Thanks, Doris

At half time the score was 49 to O in favor of the elephants. Bill said look "We have got to do something to stop these elephants!" On returning kickoff at beginning of 3rd quarter, something hit the elephant returning the ball and knocked him cold. Bill was so excited, "Who hit that elephant?" "I did sir, piped up the centipede." Bill asked, "Where were you in the first half?" Centipede replied "I was puttig on my shoes!". Good Morning, I hope no one minds (too much) that I'm forwarding this death cert. transcription from Los Angeles, Calif. My reasons for doing so are: My Ggrandmothers second husband was Harry Pickett RIDDLE. I've suspected for some time that Pickett is somehow a family name. Harry's father was William BAKER RIDDLE, he was born in Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois and Harry was born 1890 in Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas. Harry and his wife, Laura Anna GOODALE-LILES-RIDDLE are laid to rest in the Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery in Los Angeles County, Calif. Does anyone recognize any of my research surnames or any of those given below?? Warren have you looked at the Riddle's over in Anderson county. They have a drugstore on route 62 between Oak Ridge and Oliver Springs. Stan Knoxville, Tenn
It has been 9 months since I first subscribed to the Riddle List. At that time, I was searching for the parents of my g-grandmother, Phoebe Ann Ridley/Riddle, of Hamblen Co. and Hawkins Co., TN. I had earlier located a marriage license indicating that on May 19, 1864, a Phoebe Riddle had married a William Darnell in Hawkins Co. In the 1870 census for Hawkins Co.,TN, I located Phebe A. as a member of household #105, headed by Eliza A. Ridley. Also included were Phoebe's known brothers and my grandfather, William Hickman Ridley, as a 5 year old. To the surprise of my whole family, there was also listed an older sister, Mary J., and another younger brother, David P. Initially, I could not locate Phoebe and her family in the 1860 census, but I did find a household (#83) in the 1850 census for Hawkins Co. that was headed by a James Riddle and including Eliza , girls Jane and Ann, and a baby boy James. The data for the family is as follows: James, 38, NC, Labourer, can read and write Eliza, 33, NC, cannot read or write Jane, 4, VA Ann, 2, VA James, 6/12, TN After much fustration that resulted from an indexing error, I located the family in the 1860 census for Hawkins Co. in household #226. The family was indexed as Biddle instead of Riddle. The data for this family is as follows: James, 46, F.L.( I assume this is Farm Laborer), NC. ( Note: Still no middle initial) Eliza A., 37, NC Mary J., 11, VA Pheba A., 10, TN James W., 8, TN Cornelius, 7, TN David P., 6, TN George W., 2,TN When I started my family search, the only known Ridley family members here in Hamblen Co. were Phoebe, Cornelius, and George W.. Three years ago, I located and made contact with the family of James W. Ridley, located in Greene Co., TN. I have also done some tracing of Mary Jane. Much to the surprise of the entire family, she is buried in a small family cemetery across the road from where I live. Why the change in the spelling of the family name? I have no idea. Whereas, last May, I was searching for Phoebe's parents, I am now looking for leads to follow to locate the parents of James and the family of Eliza A. I do know that James W. named his daughter Eliza Ann. The "A" in his mother's name might be for Ann also. I have not found any information on David P. Riddle/Ridley. I have just about exhausted the resources of the Hawkins Co. and Hamblen Co. libraries and the McClung Center in Knoxville. If anyone out there can provide some additional information about James, Eliza A.,or David P., it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and regards. Warren

Hi everyone, This is not a plug even though it might sound like one! I am posting it here incase someone has Riddle's in this area during this time. It is free for 10 days,(link is at the bottom) and there are 12 Riddle's listed. Hope it helps someone. CG ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI MARRIAGES, 1804-76 During the 1800s, many people traveled through St. Louis on their journey west. Some lingered for only a day or two, others stayed long enough to record a document, and still others terminated their journey in St. Louis. This database was compiled by members of the St. Louis Genealogical Society and was based on records in the St. Louis City Hall. The data includes more than 150,00 entries, covering almost 77,000 marriages. Each entry includes the surname and the given name(s) of each spouse, the date of the marriage, and a volume and page reference. The records begin in 1804, when St. Louis was part of the Louisiana Purchase, progress through Missouri statehood in 1821, and conclude in 1876, when the city of St. Louis became an independent city and separated itself from the county of St. Louis. Hi Folks, I think I have a breakthrough on my brick wall....a nice librarian in the genealogy dept. of a library in Van Zandt Co, Texas saw my Hunt Co. query and posted this: 1860 census of Hunt County, Texas, page 336: Henry A. Riddle, 35, M, Wagoner and Farmer, 600, born in North Carolina Mary E. 31, F, born in Tennessee. William A. 11, M, born in Texas. Sarah E. 10, F, born in Texas. John G. 9, M. born in Texas (I'm almost sure this is my ggrandfather as the age and location are correct). Also, in this household: John Hill 24, M, laborer on farm, born in Mo. Addison Sharp, 25, M. laborer on farm born in Tn. Don't know if these two are related or just worked for them. John G.'s death certificate says his father was Alick and he was born in Pa but that info was given by a daughter who didn't necessarily know all the facts. Does anyone have any connection to this family....this is my first big lead in 5 years!! Doris Moore [email protected]
