Charles accompanied his parents to Howard County, Missouri in 1821, and to Buchanan County in the spring of 1838, and has made this his home since, having been engaged in farming all his life. Assisted in redeeming this county from a wilderness, and has had his full share of the hardships of pioneer life. In his manners he is kind and genial, and is widely and favorably known, and has won the re- spect of a large circle of friends. During the late war he enlisted and served for six months in the noted Pawpaw Militia. He owns 80 acres of fine land, partly improved. He has filled the office of road overseer several terms. He was married to Miss Eliza Horton, a native of Kentucky. They have had a family of seven children, six of whom are living: Benjamin, Sarah, now Mrs. B. RIDDLE; Henry, Martha J., now Mrs. B. Tadlock; Samuel D. and Oscar. Mrs. McCray and five of the children are members of the Baptist Church. ****** Dear Riddle Researchers, As Buchanan County, Missouri (St. Joseph area) is where I am looking for my RIDDLE family does anyone know anything about Sarah McCray and Mr. B. RIDDLE? Thank you, Marie LC ******** "Tell me now, please, I know you were getting away with something, I know you were finding some way to outwit us, night after night with your wheelbarrow filled with straw, though I could never catch you, you can tell me now, what it is you were stealing?" 2. Do you have any other information on your Mary "Polly" Riddle? This may just be coincidence, but I have a Terry Riddle, b. abt. 1800, whose father was James R. Riddle b. in NC and moved to TN (Rhea County) 1800-1810. My Terry married Mary "Polly" Patterson (Mary "Polly" name seems to have been a very popular name in that era) in 1819, Rhea County, TN. It is possible from the date of birth of your Mary and your J. T. Riddle that she is a sister to my Terry Riddle. I would be interested in learning more about this line. 3. For those having a difficult time reading email the list owner stated: "PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE THROUGH THE LIST." This is like in school when the test said to read the instructions first before starting the test and the final instruction was to simply write your name on the paper and then put your pencil down. 2. Jerrell & Susan Blackmon
    3. Hello all Riddle researchers, If you have already contacted me to verify your address and which mode you want to recieve the messages in, please do not respond to this again, please delete. First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Susan Blackmon and my husband's maternal grandmother was a Riddle. About a month ago, ownership of the Riddle mailing list was transferred to me. Over the past few weeks, I've been watching the posting habits and for any problems. I'm very pleased to see that this is a very active list and that the members get along so well. I have noticed that I receive more than a dozen error messages each day though that all pertain to undeliverable mail. This is generally caused because a subscriber has changed their email address and has not unsubscribed the old one. What I'm going to ask each of you to do is this. Please email me at [email protected] with the email address that should be subscribed and whether you want to be on the MAIL (you receive individual messages as they are posted) or DIGEST (you receive several messages in one email about 2X a day) mode. The first of April, I will unsubscribe any addresses that have not been verified. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE THROUGH THE LIST. Please respond to me directly at [email protected] Thank you for your help with this and happy researching. Susan Listowner

    2. No Richard I haven't but will try it. I am taking the Antioxidant D,E, and c anyway with minerals in them in gel form. Our weather here is so unpredictable any way. We burn one minute, freeze the next, and it comes a rain the next with a sand storm following. I do feel better this morning though. It is sprinkling outside and the weather man says it will freeze tonight. Oh well our heater is working! wrak

    1. [RIDDLE-L] A Thought to Ponder!!
    2. Arvela Bateman
    3. This was written by a teen in Bagdad, Arizona. This is incredible!!!!!!!!!!! Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen If you aren't ashamed to do this, please pass this on. Jesus said, " if you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed of you before my Father."
