My great grandfather was Seth F. Richardson (b. 31 Aug 1836 in Canton, St. Lawrence Co., NY) son of Seth Richardson (b. 20 Oct 1788 in Bennington, Manchester Co., VT) and Clarissa Farwell (b. 2 Dec 1797 in Vermont). Seth Sr. died in 1843 in NY but Seth F. and his bride, Orpha M. Blanchard, left NY for WI after the Civil War in which Seth F. served in the 50th Regt. NY Vol. Eng. Clarissa went with them to Wisconsin and d. 4 Oct 1874 in WI. Seth F. and Orpha first lived in Fond Du Lac where two (or three?) of their six children were born. They then moved to Markesan, Green Lake Co., WI, where their other three children were born. After the birth of the last child around 1875 they moved to Minnesota. Seth Sr. and Clarissa had more than six children but I only have information on four: Seth F., Hiram, John and Julius. Would be interested to know if you connect to this Richardson line. I have two Seth Richardson's in my line, but not enough info to follow them to NY. The first Seth was born 3 APril 1719 in Medfield, MA, the son of Joseph (b 1687) who was the son of John Richardson of Medfield (b 1650 in Wells, ME). This is the John Richardson of Medfield line, as chronicled by JA Vinton in his Richardson Memorial. Seth had a son named Seth, and at that point, I lose the trail. Mostly due to the fact that it's not my direct line, and I haven't chased it any further. Does this sound like your Seth Richardson line? I do have a number of ancestors who moved out to NY, in the area you described, I believe.... Gary Allen Richardson
I suspect that your Seth Sr. might be the Seth that I've noticed in Chautauqua County. I've noted his ownership of a farm in the Portland area. A Seth also appears on the Charlotte Township (Chautauqua Co) Census in 1830, along with Josiah Richardson and Crocker Richardson. Similarly, your Seth Jr. may be the one that I've noted later in Wisconsin. I'm interested, too, that your Seth Sr. originates in Vermont. Census reports on my John Richardson sometimes do report birth in Vermont. His children varied in saying that their father was born in Vermont or in New York. I am going to take a look in the Bennington, Manchester Vermont area where your Seth derives. The problem is that I have no idea how or if Seth & Crocker connect with my GG Grandfather John Richardson. I've just noted that they were all contemporaries in Chautauqua County NY and seem to have all moved on to Wisconsin. So I keep making note of the Seths and the Crockers, hoping sometime to see a relationship. Don't we just wish that those early Census reports identified all the names in the household! Thanks for your response. If I turn up any connection, I'll certainly let you know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Wilde" <wildeman1@cox.net> To: <RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 21, 2005 10:40 AM Subject: [RICHARDSON] Seth Richardson > "Elaine Sunde" <elaine1sunde@cox.net> wrote: > > "Still, I have some sense of an extended family in both New York and > Wisconsin (the names of Seth Richardson and Crocker Richardson reappear, > for example)." > > My great grandfather was Seth F.
