Here it is. It is an article in The Richardson Memorial by John Adams Vinton, pub 1876. http://mindspring.com/~dcrichardson/histRMA.htm my home page http://mindspring.com/~dcrichardson/ Tom Wilde wrote: > Greetings Elaine, John, Gary, et al! ;-) > > I have been in contact with many Richardson researchers over the years > and, as you say, John seems to be the given name of choice for the > majority of the Richardson lines on which we have exchanged information. > However, I've found several Seth Richardson's in the 1850 and 1860 US > Censuses. > > Through my Richardson contacts I have learned that my g,g grandfather > Seth Richardson's father was Nathan Richardson, b. 1760 in Coventry, > Tolland Co., CT. You are all so generous to share your Johns and Seths. I'm really pleased to see this Vinton article as I've come across references to it several times. The various references to Richardsons in Mass, Conn, and Vermont have given me new energy to look at some of the early materials on Ancestry (in the Local and Family Histories archive). I'm left with the sense that I'm looking at early ancestors in one or another of these archives. My challenge remains in how to bridge the gap and know which one. I have "my" John, with wife Eunice, in 1835 in Chautauqua county, New York; no other Richardsons in his immediate neighborhood but one of the Seths and a Crocker Richardson in the region. Are they kin? And where were John and Eunice in 1830? Who knows... The later census reports (when they reached Rock Co, Wisconsin) usually say my John was born in Vermont in 1799, so I'm inclined to look at those earlier links. Occasionally, however, his children reported their father born in New York (perhaps because THEY were born there and did not have his earlier history?). But other than that, zip. So, I keep reading and keep gathering earlier Richardson stuff. Somewhere there will be that little bit that opens the door, yes? Perhaps in something you guys have shared. So, thanks! ----- Original Message ----- From: "David C.
