The term is actually cordwainer, denoting someone who crafted shoes, as opposed to a cobbler who mostly repaired them. The Cordwainer's Guild is still active, albeit mostly historical these days. One of the Richardson homes in Franklin, MA had evidence of a shop in the basement for the manufacture of shoes. ----- Original Message ----- From: VOOLICH@aol.com To: RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 7:05 PM Subject: [RICHARDSON] Robert and Sarah RICHARDSON Since I wrote this list a while ago about William RICHARDSON, I have confirmed that he was born 5 November 1835 in Quebec City, Canada. With it came the names of his parents--which I had not known. His father was Robert RICHARDSON and mother was Sarah. His father was a shoe maker and they baptized their son in a Wesleyan Methodist Church. Does anyone have any information on Robert and Sarah RICHARDSON who were living in the Quebec City, Canada area in 1835. They or their parents might have come from Ireland.
