I have to agree that there are many "three brother" stories because my Richardson too came from one of the but my line ended in Indiana, Michigan area. Compared to my American research (mostly in the South), I have found Scottish relatively easy - in most places, records are good and go pretty far back in time. Do you have any idea where he was prior to arriving in Tennessee? Do any records support the story that he was from Scotland or from Leith? You probably know that the 3 brothers story is among the most common in genealogy. That does not mean that it isn't true in any given case, but it does mean that one should always look more closely.
