All of us as Americans are horrified and stunned at this senseless act of terrorism on our families, friends and neighbors in NY and DC. In the days to follow, let us remember to pray---no matter our choice of religion or belief--for those who have lost loved ones, for those who are working diligently to rescue our brothers and sisters in NY and DC, for those who have the task of investigating this horrible atrocity and for those who are right now making serious decisions about how to reply to these terrorists. It is human nature to think of revenge and retribution at a time like this---we have all felt it in our hearts in recent hours---but let us remember to make sure that it doesn't spill over on to other innocent Americans because of their religion, ethnicity or skin color. These terrorists have done enough damage. Please lets not allow them to change the very core of America's identity and meaning. It is the safe harbor for people of all religions, all races, all ethnicities. As Americans it is our duty to safeguard these freedoms both as a country and as individuals. A call has gone out to us to fly the American flag at this time. While we are doing so, let us each not forget what it stands for, what it means to be an American.
