Sorry, the construction date for this home was 1774, not 1744. If you're wondering about a town that you have an interest in, I would recommend placing a call to the Town Assessor, and asking if their assessments are on line. I'm in the mortgage business, and find these sites very helpful in determining an approximate value for a home. Many appraisers will use the information for their work, as well, as the online data is usually produced from the "field card", which records the measurements, style of home, gross living area and so forth, for a given property. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gary Richardson<mailto:gar3131@msn.com> To: RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 25, 2005 9:35 PM Subject: [RICHARDSON] Richardson Homestead, Franklin Many towns have published house assessments/appraisals on line in recent years. The Town of Franklin is one of them, and this listing is one of two Richardson Homesteads still standing in town. The date of construction for the home on Lincoln Street shows as 1825, but it was actually built in 1744, and an addition built in 1825. The present owner is named Locke, and they are the 3rd family to own the property. It passed into the Adams family when Clarissa Day Richardson married Peter Adams in 1841. Previously, it belonged to Elisha Richardson, and was built next to a home on what is now called Skyline Drive. If you compare the two photographs, you'll note a very similar style for both homes. This home has been identified in some history books as "The Richardson Homestead", but the Skyline Drive home is the true ancestral home. The properties are on the Franklin/Norfolk, MA line, in an area known as City Mills back in the day. At that time, the farms were several hundreds of acres in size, and often subdivided for various family members. This is the original Richardson Homestead, in it's present day manifestation. Over the years, parts of the home were lost to fire, and additions made, but the central part of the home is still intact, dating back to 1724. The town website lists a 1730 date of construction, which is close to the true date. A search of surrounding properties helped to uncover one other home from the 1700's, which also may have been in the Richardson family. If any of the towns that you may be researching has a similar website for the property assessments, you may find a new source of information previously unavailable without searching through town records. In New England, Vision Appraisal is one of the larger sources for town sites, although this one is produced by Patriot Properties. My own town of Warwick, RI has it's own on line assessment site. It may pay to investigate similar websites for other towns, as well. You'll be surprised at how much information is there. http://franklin.patriotproperties.com/Summary.asp?AccountNumber=10030<http://franklin.patriotproperties.com/Summary.asp?AccountNumber=10030>

Gary, the URL is too long just to link on. One must type it in. At least the last part. The address breaks and apparently the computer doesn't understand that it should continue on the next line..
Have I sent you this file and its ancestry files... 7276 Capt. John Wilkes Richardson Capt. John Wilkes Richardson 6 (John, 5 John, 4 John, 3 John, 2 John 1), brother of the preceding, and only son of John 5 and Abigail (Haven) Richardson, of Franklin, Mass.; born there, Dec. 30, 1774; married, 1796, Matilda Kingsbury, of Franklin. He lived and died in Franklin, on the estate owned and occupied by his father, and now by his son John. His father gave him by a deed, dated Sept. 16, 1796, one-half of the homestead, containing one hundred acres, and one-half of the dwelling-house and other buildings thereon. This property had been owned by father, son, grandson, and great-grandson, these one hundred and fifty years, or since 1724. So far as is known, his ancestors in the male line have all been named John, and himself also. They were all mechanics of some sort, cordwainers, carpenters, and cultivators of the soil. John Wilkes Richardson was a farmer. He also taught in the common schools in Franklin and the adjacent towns thirty-one winters in succession. He was also one of the assessors of Franklin several years. His children were: 7409. Abigail, 7 b. Sept. 21, 1797; m. Noyes Payson Hawes. 7410. John Haven, 7 b. Oct. 16, 1800; m. My direct line didn't come to the U.S. until the late 1800s and by then were intermarried with the Kirkbrides and Birtwhistles so that particular research is centered in Workington, Whitehaven and later Manchester. I think the Richardsons were captains of ships but can't find it for sure. There are lots of good links in that area of England. DeEtte. Margrett - is there any connection between you and Missouri McCorkle who was the first wife of John Wesley Tatman b. 1892 in Paulding Co., Ohio? He was the son of Oliver Oston Tatman and Mary Walters. I have no other information on her other than two children possibly born of her. Her name might suggest that she was born in Missouri. Did Adoniram have anything to do with the Harrington & Richardson Firearms Company? I seem to recall that name while I was looking for a family connection with "those" Richardson's. The company was started in the Worcester area, and there are still some of the guns available today, although the Richardson's and Harrington's are no longer involved with the company. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry & Carolyn Ott<mailto:jc.ott@verizon.net> To: RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 24, 2005 10:09 PM Subject: Re: [RICHARDSON] Re: RICHARDSON-D Digest V05 #11 You mentioned Richardson in Franklin, Ma.
